Major disaster involving over 200 deaths, primarily of Scot immigrants from the ship John McKenzie that sailed from the Clyde on May 18, 1857 and arrived in Quebec Canada on  June 26, 1857. Passengers then loaded on the steamship "The Montreal" to continue their journey to the city of Montreal. Disaster struck on June 26. The ship caught fire and many passengers drowned.

I have newspaper lists of people who died, as well as names of survivors and stories of the disaster if anyone is interested.

My great great grandmother Agnes Gibson b. abt 1811 in Arbroath and her two daughters Elisabeth b. 1836  and Christina  b. 1849  all died. Her husband David Watson, a daughter Agnes b. 1834 in Dundee, Forfarshire and her son David b. 1840 survived.

If you edit your post and add the tag died_at_sea that should bring it to the attention of the Died at Sea Project.
