I am trying to determine the correct spelling of John's last name, Stephens Or Stevens, Stephens-19747

His father and most siblings spell it as Stephens but all the sources are from Ancestry and would appreciate someone who has access to evaluate for me.

Thank you very much for your time and opinion, Terri Coffey-5733

Even though other records surely record it at Stephens, as there was not a "correct" spelling then, he signed his will Stevens.

Thank you!   I'll create a new profile under Stevens then merge with Stephens.  I'll make a note about the signature on the will and use of the other spelling.   Thanks for your help!
You are welcome! You should be able to change the last name at birth and not have to create a new profile and merge them.

Also, the wills are available on FamilySearch here. If the link doesn't work, just search the catalog for North Carolina, Johnston, the scroll down to probate, then Johnston county estate records.
