How do I give attribution for someone else's research

I would like to give due attribution to research findings that were the labor of someone other than myself.  Is there a mechanism for doing so in Wikitree?

Yes, you can add an acknowledgment header below the sources header. I use the link to the users profile name I want to thank, so people can find them. You can add whatever you want to thank them for, and as many people as you want involved in the profile. I add my own profile link at the end of the statement, so future visitors will know who added the acknowledgement if they want to contact me, and for future managers updating and maintaining the profile.

Example

==Acknowledgments==

#I would like to thank [[Doe-866| John Doe]] for their work on creating this profile, etc. [[Fife-1|Barney Fife]]

Two ways come to mind. You can say something like "According the research of so-and-so, blah blah blah." Then provide source with link, if applicable. Another way is to create a subheading under the == Sources == section called === Acknowledgements === Sometimes this is used when profiles have been merged and several people had originally created a profile for the individual. I've also used it to acknowledge the research or others, even if they aren't WikiTreers.

According to the styles and standards, an Acknowledgments section is to be a level 2 header beneath the == Sources == header, not a subheading.
== Acknowledgments ==
Good to know. In the past the Acknowledgements header was level 3. I'm talking back in 2013.

I have come across many profiles from that era with the level 3 header.  I have no idea when it changed, just that it did.   smiley
(There are a number of folk who would prefer it smaller than level 2, but the "rule" is it is to be level 2.)

If you have a number of profiles for which you would like to acknowledge the research of the same person, another possibility is to create a free-space page summarizing the person's contributions, and then linking each of the profiles to that summary, either in the narrative or in a source citation as appropriate.  You can also include a link in the free-space page that will generate a listing of all the profiles that reference it.
