Finding citations in nyshistoricnewspapers.org

Can someone who uses nyshistoricnewspapers.org explain in simple terms how to copy a citation of an obituary so I can meet wikitree sources requirement. I found an obituary for James Crayford in Dec. 1917  in the Republic Journal, published in St. Lawrence County, but can't find instructions to finish my project.
I can't use wikitree apps.  It is beyond my abilities so far.  I literally hate the new form.  The old one was so much simpler.

Unfortunately all the source links went dead when they changed their system. The citation is viable the link isn’t.

The only way I can cite things from nyhistoricnewspapers these days is to cite it manually. For my research notes I'd cite it as

"Aged Veteran of Depeyster Passes Away," The Republican-Journal (Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York), 4 December 1917, page 3, column 3; image, NYS Historic Newspapers (https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=rpj19171204-01.1.3&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN---------- : accessed 15 October 2023).

For wikitree I'd probably do

"Aged Veteran of Depeyster Passes Away," The Republican-Journal (Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York), 4 December 1917, page 3, column 3; image, NYS Historic Newspapers (https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/ : accessed 15 October 2023).

because their direct links are so long :-)

Hope this helps

If you use the square bracket link notation you can conceal the long link but still have it clickable:

"Aged Veteran of Depeyster Passes Away," The Republican-Journal (Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York), page 3, column 3; image, NYS Historic Newspapers [https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=rpj19171204-01.1.3&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN---------- 4 December 1917] : accessed 15 October 2023).

(The URL is still visible here on G2G, but will show as 4 December 1917 on a displayed profile.)

Even if I can shorten the citation, where can I find a copy to do so?
I think if not using an app you need to construct the citation yourself in each case, building on one of the models Patty and I have given and varying the components as appropriate.
Just copy url of the pdf; it’s very long and have to use end brackets. It’s a great resource to use but it’s not user friendly and the old style was much easier.
What is a pdf?
Thank you - didn't know about square bracket link notation
