Does anyone have a subscription to the American Civil War Research Database?

I tried to subscribe online, but their system keeps giving me an error. This has been happening for months. Finally got an answer by email, they want me to call them with payment information. I just haven't had the opportunity, and, this seems kind of rinky dink.

The URL is  https://www.civilwardata.com/

Here's the thing. They often have great data beyond what I can find on Fold3. Ancestry has a subscription to the database because sometimes I find Ancestry records that cite this database.

I want to see if anyone has a subscription, finds it worth it (btw it's cheap $25/yr), and would recommend it. Or can I find everything they have on Ancestry.com?

Thank you,

Here's a link to a site I like, it's free: Civil War Research and Genealogy Database (civilwardata.com)

It looks like the same link, but they've never asked me to pay them and I've been using the link for months.

Awesome!

Well, this is interesting and needs looking into. I searched a soldier in that database, and this is everything the database shows about him:

Residence Bridgeport IN;
Enlisted on 3/4/1862 as a Private.

On 3/4/1862 he mustered into "F" Co. IN 53rd Infantry
He was discharged for disability on 11/25/1862

Now, here's what Ancestry had on their site for which they claim that database to be the source (note the aditional muster in and out dates):

Name Edward S McIntire
Enlistment Date 4 Mar 1862
Enlistment Rank Private
Muster Date 4 Mar 1862
Muster Place Indiana
Muster Company F
Muster Regiment 53rd Infantry
Muster Regiment Type Infantry
Muster Information Enlisted
Muster Out Date 25 Nov 1862
Muster Out Information disch disability
Side of War Union
Survived War? Yes
Residence Place Bridgeport, Indiana
It looks like Ancestry just uses more words, but the dates all seem to be the same.
I see now that Ancestry just formats the data differently.

Have you tried citing that database with Sourcer?

Thank you
I've never used that app
If you use it, you'll never go back. Rob Pavey, the developer, is a genius. That reminds me, I need to give him a WW award.

Example... you have someone for whom you need to create a bio and add sources. Go to Family Search and you see they have 10 sources. Evaluate the sources and if they all look good you click one button in the extension, called "Build all Citations" and then paste it into the WT bio. It will add a narrative for every citation, and builds family tables (you can choose to go with lists instead of tables if you don't like the tables.). Boom, bio complete. Just need proofreading and adding some "color" if you want.

I will then check Ancestry to see if it has anything useful that FS does not. If you find a record you want to use, click the Build Narrative with Citation option in Sourcer and paste it into the bio. The Sourcer will automatically produce an Ancestry "sharing" link.

The extension does a number of other useful tasks but this particular one has saved me hours upon hours of time.

There's a tutorial on the WT Youtube page
