My Butlers go back to William Butler, first settler of Crab Orchard-Tazewell, VA in about 1770 and stop there. Looking for his ancestors and any involvements in the Rev. War. He also was a Long Hunter with Dan'l Boone in KY and his son John Butler was an original at Boonesboro and then with Gen. Geo. R. Clark at Vincennes, etc.

Am happy to help where I can.

My Virginia connections are the lines of James Shane and Solomon Shrode. James (1788 - 1874) is my 4th great grandfather and Y-DNA matches suggest the name was Sheehan from Kerry County Ireland. I have no records for him in Berkeley County VA other than pre-1840 census records. They were in Illinois in 1840 minus his wife Catherine Shrode. Sequential censuses lead to Wayne County Iowa where he dies 1874.

Shrodes are listed in 1800 VA Property Owners Index in the District of Daniel Morgan.

Hello

My Mother's paternal line Williams migrated from Breage Cornwall  England in 1701 to an indistinct Virginia.  After that descendants were in York and later Amelia County.  Married into the Duncan, Hundley and Motley families.

Phillip Williams III miigrated in the early 1800s (1808 earliest Kentucky record)  to Kentucky via North Carolina. I need to do a lot of  family research but the history during the era is the bigger draw.

Hello,

My interest in Virginia goes back to learning of President George Washington in elementary school. He is one of my heroes, and I’ve researched and have Virginia ancestors. I’m a paralegal and love to research American history and the ancestral roots of its origins.

Some ancestors of mine are Augustine Warner, William Braswell, and Willliam Plumley. I’m also descended from the Graves, Gosnell, Howard, and Lindsey families from colonial Virginia who migrated to North Carolina after the American Revolution. I’d love to help with this project.

Thank you,

Jesse

Both sides of my family have lived in either Halifax or Mecklenburg County for over 200 years with some lines extending further back at least a half century. I enjoy collecting and preserving personal and biographical information about those who have gone before. From this area most lines can be traced to the Tidewater to Richmond area.

My earliest Ward ancestor was established on the James, a few miles below the Falls, at what today is Deep Bottom Park by 1631. Seth Ward's descendants married into Virginia's gentry and as a result I'm related in one way or another to a number of significant figures including Jefferson, Marshall, Washington, etc. My earliest arriving ancestor, Cicely Reynolds, came to Jamestown in 1611, aboard the Swan. I've written a social history of my Ward family, in the process becoming quite familiar with the ins and outs of Virginia history and genealogy.

Are you a descendant of Samuel Jordan, Cicely Reynolds' husband in Virginia?  They were married in 1618, and  had two daughters before he died before April 1623, in Charles City, Virginia.  The daughters were Mary (born in 1620) and Margaret (born in 1623.  Samuel was my ancestor.  Do you have any information about what ship Samuel arrived on in Jamestown?  I think he arrived in 1610, as he was listed as a 'Ancient Planter' in 1620, said to have been living in Virginia for ten years.
No, I descend from William Farrar, her 3rd husband

Hi!  My family has lived in Botetourt County, Virginia since the late 1700s.  Surnames include Bigler, Kinzie, Abshire, Gish, Nininger, and Akers to start.

I have joined DAR with a Patriot from Patrick County who is a Newman from my Paternal Grandmother's family. As I work on the Newman line, I've started adopting Newman profiles that have no profile manager.  I think that this line will also take me back to Jamestown but I have not completed that research.

I'm fairly new to WikiTree as I have been doing most of my research through Ancestry.com.  But I love the power and flexibility of WikiTree and would be excited to help!

My mom was born into the Cull family that originated in this country in Virginia.  The first Cull was James Ruben Cull (Cull-336).  He was listed as wounded in the battle of Draper's Meadow, 8 July 1755.  He is buried near Harrodsburg, KY, which I believe was part of VA at some point.  His is recorded to have died in Amherst, VA.

I don't know where to even begin with this. My father's father and his mother's family all descended from Virginia. They came from  Richmond and Henrico, moved across the state and settled mostly in southwest Virginia. Every relative born in Virginia, I put the Virginia State Seal on it. My father moved to Tennessee, because he was orphaned, When I started doing this project and found, all his relatives were from Virginia, mostly Tazewell county, Smyth county, Wythe county, Russell county, Pocahontas, And I even have descended from a US president, Zachary Taylor,  who is from Virginia, which only makes sense. Every night when I work on the profiles, and everyone's from Virginia. So, yes Virginia is up my alley. Failed to mention that I descended from two James Town settlers. My son lives in Abington, Virginia, and teaches at Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia. My mother's family came from Virginia through North Carolina.

Starting with my 5th GGF Douglas Puckett this line and the women who married into the family arrived in Virginia as early as 1660. Other names include Jeffrey, Womack, Judd, Nin, Allen and Walthall.

Hey, we might be cousins. My family are Puckett's. However, I think it's the other line. But I'd be interested in conversing.

I don't have any Y-DNA to go from. My 2nd grt. grandfather, Alfred Harrison Puckett, was born in VA., in 1805.Although he doesn't appear to be related to the Womack etc line.

This comment is for J Burkholder
I would also be interested in sharing tree information on Puckett family line. Let me know how we can start.

Janet
Yes I would like to join the Southern Colonies Project. ALL of my family is from the South.  Hale, Neal, Jackson, Starr Peace being some of the last names. But I don't know how to sign up.
Thanks. Here is where my confusion sets in. My father was a Puckett. His grandmother was Kittie Broyles who married Prentiss Sargent Puckett, who's father was Alfred Harrison Puckett.(1805-1846). I can't go any further back than that, paternally.

However, maternally, there are also Pucketts, but only by marriage. That would be the William Puckett, Womack lines. Maternal lines are Pennington, Charley, Hurst.

My wiki id is Puckett-2747.
My Puckett and Womack lines intermarried. I don't have any the of Puckett names you listed. Would you allow me access to your Ancestry tree to help make the connection? Janet
Sure, It's on my profile page
I think it would be a waste of your time because unfortunately, you won't find anything of use. the connections I have found were from wikitree itself. Blush, I don't know how to get you access. Trusted List? What about Patterson or Menefee in my maternal line, any connections there?

Burkholder
I don't have Patterson or Menefee in any of my lines. We might be distant cousins but don't know where we could connect. Sorry. Janet
Yeah, it's strange to me that I can't find the right Puckett's. I haven't been able to go further back than my 2nd grt. Grandfather Puckett. Distant cousins is probably the right choice. Oh well. Would be nice if I could find his family in Colonial Virginia. Thanks
