Join the Remember the Children Project

Remember the Children is a Wikitree Project with volunteers who lovingly help improve the profiles of children and infants who passed away before their 18th birthday, and takes the opportunity to also shine a light on the many mothers who died during or after childbirth.

Wikitree has the vision that each person born deserves a well cared for profile to be remembered by. This also includes those of children, who often gets overlooked in family trees as they do not provide any further connections to the tree. A lot can be said about a life, even those that were very short.

Please post an answer to this question if you are interested in joining us or if you have any questions.

NOTE:  This G2G thread is for membership and not discussion of the sticker. That discussion is here.

I am aware this comment is likely to be hidden, but it needs to be said.

NOTE:  This G2G thread is for membership and not discussion of the sticker. That discussion is here.

That linked discussion is not about using alternative images by way of the parameter |image= being added to the existing template.
As I was reminded on that discussion, it is only for gauging how many are in favour of changing the existing template (the default image for which is the flying baby head), and replacing it with a pink and blue ribbon instead.
Therefore, there is not actually a place to discuss use of the parameter.

Melanie - Although that discussion is for one specific graphic, it does mention that other graphics can be used.  With this new ability to add different graphics, I hope that everyone will find it useful.

I would love to join this project. I am a photographer and volunteer with an organization called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, (NILMDTS), an organization that provides remembrance portraits to families experiencing the loss of a baby.

I would like to join.  I couldn't imagine not adding our losses to our tree.  When I discover lost little ones in our family, I try to include as much information as possible, and connect them to the rest of the family on Find A Grave.

Hello I would like to join please I recently improved over 100 profiles of children who died young.

One thing has struck me there is an image we can use for girls who died young but not so for boys Having recently watched young boys playing in parks I noticed a) they were less likely to use the swings preferring climbing frames or using slides  (possibly not in the way manufacturers intended!) and b) they played ball - football, basketball and occasionally a version of cricket or rugby So could we have an image for young boys please? Or a gender free child on a bicycle?

P.S.  RtC now has the ability to change the graphic on the sticker with a little bit more coding.  An example can be found in the table on this page.  We are also adding more graphics to the graphics page to represent all children under 18 years old.

I would love to join this group. Having experienced a niece that died prior to or at birth, I understand the love and emotions that come with the passing of such a young one.

What a sweet project!  While I am not able to commit to another project right now, you have encouraged me to add my own two children who died at birth (many years ago) and my best friend who died at age 12.

Thank you VERY much for doing this.
by Randall Merriott G2G6 Mach 1 (11.6k points)
Randall, thank you so much for sharing this.  I can't imagine how hard it was to lose two children, at birth, and your best friend at such a young age.  Please know that all of us are giving you a collective hug, right now.
Thank you, that is very kind.  I really do think that this is a wonderful project.

I would definately like to join the project.  Having discovered so many infants/children who died in my family tree that I never heard of, I think this is an important project.

Is there a minimum requirement on how many profiles you improve/create in a month to be a member?  Thank you.
by Deborah Galvin G2G1 (1.6k points)

Deborah -

Thank you for joining the Remember the Children Project and for working on these precious profiles.

There is not a minimum requirement.  It would be difficult to ask someone to work on a certain number a month because these profiles can get very emotional and heartbreaking.  The goal is to work on those you find.  If you have time to work on a few from the list, that would be helpful but not required.

Hi, I have done my tree since 1969 after my Mum gave me a Family Bible. My 2x great gran had 13 children in 26 years and she died having the last one who also died. Please can I join your group?
by Stephen Hubbard G2G1 (1.5k points)

Stephen -

Thank you for joining the Remember the Children Project and for working on these precious profiles. I am so sorry to hear about your 2xGG.  If she is on WT, there is a category for those moms that died during childbirth.

How are you finding these profiles?  I know that I have maybe two in my family, one of which I added the Category: Died Young which I just happened to stumble on, but I'd have to go back through my entire tree to find what I assume are more.  I probably won't join, as such, since I'm participating in far too many, but I will add stickers, etc. to profiles in my profiles and any I work on in the future.
by Lorraine O'Dell G2G6 Mach 4 (43.5k points)

Lorraine -

Most WikiTree'er's are making sure their own family lines have detailed profiles for those that died young.

For those that want to make sure that every died young profile, on WikiTree, is complete, they are working off these lists

I would like to join. I have always taken interest in those who passed away young. It was always so sad to me, considering most people just didn't talk about children who passed away. Any knowledge of how they were or what they were like sadly passed away with the parents, most of the time. :(

I have my global badge now so I can request to join the Remeber the Children list!!

I would love to be a member as I am currently working to care for those babes buried in my county. I just started to clean their tombstones and plan to plant some wild flowers in a few planter style graves this summer.
by Christine Preston G2G6 Mach 6 (66.1k points)

Hi Christine!

You are already member.  (#36) I awarded the Global Badge to you when you requested membership a few weeks back.

Thank you for working on the Tombstones in your County. It is so precious that you are adding some wild flowers.  I love that idea.

Please add me to the project. I have several profiles in my family who died as infants or before age of 18. I have begun trying to add categories and stickers for them as I work on improving profiles. I use to be a member of Love quilts for Children. We made cross-stitch pieces for a childrens quilt, children especially with cancer.  Thank you.
