New Member Q & A via Zoom (May 2023)

Question

Are you new/newish to WikiTree and encountering some challenges in growing your branches?  These Zoom sessions hosted by Betsy Ko are for you!  The sessions are always recorded so you can watch later at a convenient time.  However, there's nothing like learning in real time and getting to ask your specific questions.  

You can participate in several ways.  Each month we actively recruit two to three individuals to join each call who are willing to let us look at their profiles and talk about their WikiTree questions.  Ideally, those participating in this way would be:

• Up and running with creating profiles (even just a few!)
• Be curious about how things work on WikiTree
• Be willing to let us make some changes to the profiles they show us
• Be comfortable talking on camera

My great grandfather Michael Schmidt and his wife my great grandmother Frances Gerhardt became step brother and step sister after Michael's father Nicholas Schmidt (after the death of Nicholas Schmidt's 1st wife who was Michael's mother, married Frances's mother Magdeline nee Burkhard after her husband, frances's father Lambert Gerhardt died. There are more children from the marriage of Nicholas Schmidt and Magdeline nee Berkhardt Gerhart Schmidt. How does wiki handle this situation?

Hello Mary,

Although this scenario makes for a complicated family tree, I believe you should be able to link the individuals with the correct relationships of parent/child and husband/wife as usual on WikiTree.  However, it will help others visiting these profiles to add an explanation of what happened either in the Biography or through Research Notes.  That way they can understand the multiple relationships connecting everyone.

I would like to join the Zoom meeting on Sunday. I am also willing to volunteer to have my profile looked at during the meeting.
