State Genealogical Society Book Reviews

Did you know that some state genealogical societies will review copies of books relevant to research in that state? Reviews of books about family history, records, history, and more are possible. For example, the North Carolina Genealogical Society (NCGS) has a book review editor to whom NC-focused books may be submitted, www.ncgenealogy.org/submit-a-publication-for-review. Once a book is reviewed, the review is published in the quarterly journal, and the received copy is then donated to the State Library of North Carolina. The reviewer often also submits select books for awards consideration. As a result, your published book has now gotten exposure (with details on purchasing included), a copy donated to the state library (to provide access and further awareness of its existence), and possible consideration for an award. NCGS is not the only genealogical society to operate in this or a similar fashion in terms of book reviews. Check out the state society relevant to your book's topic, and see if they also do book reviews. This is a simple and low-cost means of getting some great publicity about your genealogy book!
