CC7 Views (CC7 Table Update)

For anyone who's interested, I've added a few things to my CC7 Table page and changed the title to CC7 Views (https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/beacall6/cc7_table.php). If you haven't seen it, the idea of the page is to put your CC7 connections and their data in one big table and see which of them are missing parents and possibly spouses and children.

It still takes a long time to load all of the data, but I've added a couple of things to help:

1) After the data has loaded, you can save the data to a text file for faster loading next time you come back to the page. Just hit the Save button to download a file.  Next time, hit 'Load' and select the file you saved.  The table will be built much faster (although if you have about 3,000 or more people on your list, this can still take about 30 seconds).  (This data may, of course, be slightly outdated when you load it due to changes that have been made since you saved it.)

2) You can get your list one degree at a time.  This makes it much faster. It seems that the API will only give the first 1000 results for your list, so there may be no results for some of your higher degrees.  In this case, you can see a lot of your sixth degree (for example) by loading the fourth degree of a grandparent.

I've also added two new views: a 'Hierarchy' view (suggested by Rob Pavey), and a 'List' view (suggested by Lance Shumway).

The Table view will always load first. This has the most data. But then you can switch to one of the other views. The List view is the most simple: an alphabetical list of people in each degree with some icons to show missing parents and possibly spouses and children.  The Hierarchy view is an expandable/collapsible list (as you may have seen in the dynamic tree or in the collapsible descendants list (a WBE feature)).  This view is interesting as it shows the connections between all the people.

There is more information on the page (click the '?' in the top-right corner).

There are probably bugs and problems that I haven't seen yet. If you see any of these, please contact me directly (via Discord or email). Thanks.

Just for fun, here's how my new friend ChatGPT would have written this post:

The CC7 Views app (previously CC7 Table) has added features including the ability to save the data to a text file for faster loading, load data one degree at a time, and switch between two new views, 'Hierarchy' and 'List'. The 'Hierarchy' view is an expandable/collapsible list of connections between all people in the data. The 'List' view is a simple alphabetical list with icons showing missing parents, spouses, and children. The app displays CC7 connections and their data in a table format and additional information can be found by clicking the '?' in the top-right corner. If any bugs or problems arise, please reach out to me directly via Discord or email. Thank you.

Very nice! If I’d seen this before I’d forgotten about it entirely… so this time I will add it to my useful notes!! And then start exploring properly! Thank you.

This is a wonderful addition to this already fantastic tool. I just tried the Save then Reload and it is indeed speedy. Although it is well worth the wait for the most current load. I just go about other stuff while it is working on the upload.

A great feature that I just recently discovered is the ability to sort the date Created column, thereby showing what profile(s) recently increased my CC7 total. Have long wondered what tree twig got expanded when I wasn't the one who added any new profiles.  On my, if dreams could come true, wish list is the ability to find out what profiles got severed when the CC7 # drops. That sometimes happens by 1 or 2 profiles but recently it dropped by about 10 and am wondering what profiles where unlinked.  My family activity feed doesn't list any clues.

Thank you so much for this amazing tool. It is so handy for finding profiles in need of attention, like missing dates or places, in addition to missing family members.

Great. Thanks for your comment, Patricia. I'm glad it's working for you. I'm not sure about finding who has disappeared from the list, but there may be a way to do that (thinking out loud) by comparing a saved list and the current list.  I'll think a bit more about it.
Thanks Ian, comparing to the saved list is a good idea

Okay this is such a small thing but I super-appreciate that the Died Young template image appears on the connections list.  This app is great!

I tried the new app, but the Created column comes up empty, but not in the old version?

Yes, it's a pain. The new version is much better in many ways, but there is a bug in the WikiTree API which will hopefully be fixed soon.
I also noticed that the column sizing is different in the new version? I have to scroll to see the entire table.
Maybe you clicked the 'Wide Table' button by mistake?  If you see a button that says 'Normal Table', click that and see if it helps.
Yes I see both Normal and Wide buttons, but scrolling is only needed on Wide, but not on the old version.
I'm not sure what the problem is, to be honest.  On the original version, a wide table would often result in scrolling.  That was known (by me and people testing with me) from the start.  The Normal table means no scrolling, while the Wide version can make it easier to read the locations.
I went back and rechecked. I am wrong. Scrolling is required on both versions in the Wide setting, but the new Normal view is missing the Created column compared to the old.
