I've had Francis Mary Shoemaker (Moore) in my family tree for awhile. I have another person, Hulda (?) Shoemaker (?) in my tree [[Shoemaker-3812|Hulda (Shoemaker) Baswell (-abt.1840)]], who I know even less about. But since they are part of the same extended family in Spartanburg, South Carolina, I've been researching the name.
Pretty quickly I found variations of the last name. The only items I had suggesting their last names were a bit unclear, one looked more like "Shoemate", so I started researching Shumates that moved to South Carolina.
According to "History of the Shumate family", Armistead Shumate had a daughter named Francis M. Moore in York District, South Carolina. (Link is on Armistead's profile). I also stumbled upon Armistead's familysearch profile, where he has a daughter named "Francis" listed, who married a Matthew Moore (dates are wrong for birth, but neither profiles have any sources).
I feel pretty confident of this relationship, but I'm not sure where else to go to find any source. I have absolutely no records. Putting this out there into the world.
Also, still no idea about Hulda, if that is even her name. In time, in time...
(That said - I'm excited to find a possibility.)
