I recently adopted the profile Tucker-5568, representing my 5th great grandmother Jane Tucker.  It appears she was either deleted or merged into an Unknown. How do I go about reviving her profile?

Followup: Tucker-5568 was merged into Unknown-628535.  And then another transaction created a new profile for Tucker-5568 was created as: Amanda (Unknown) Carpenter (1765- )
WikiTree profile: Amanda Carpenter

The profile history of Tucker-5568 is at https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Tucker-5568

The profile content was removed in a series of edits on 20 December. Starting with https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Tucker-5568&diff=163375148&oldid=163181905 you can view each of the edits and copy the content on the left-hand column that was removed from the profile or revised. After that, create a new profile for your ancestor and paste the lost content that you want to keep into that new profile.

Ellen, thank you so much for responding.  For more context, I adopted Tucker-5568 recently, but her name when I adopted her was 'Jane Tucker".  I know, because I was doing a name search, based upon my mother's Personal Ancestry File, when I found her as Tucker-5568.  I even recorded the WikiTree ID in my Ancestry Tree for Jane Tucker.  I adopted her specifically because she was already in WikiTree and finding facts on her has been fruitless to date. My mother's family record simply had her name listed with no information other than her husband's name as John Carpenter and her daughter Diana Carpenter's name and her family.

Somehow, Tucker-5568 is now showing up as Amanda (Tucker) Carpenter.  And the trail shows Amanda was created years ago with no context. Yesterday, when I input Tucker-5568 it took me to Unknown-??????? (I did not record the number).

How would someone be able to do that? Can the system be gamed to do that?  I have no idea how I am supposed recreate Jane Tuker-5568 as a new ID when I have no supporting evidence of her and her relationships beyond my mothers PAF.

That said, the persons involved in making the changes reference back to Family Search where John Carpenter and Jane Tucker are in the family tree, along with their acknowledged relatives, including Diana. No one notified me that they thought I had made a mistake (and I may have) but all I know is that Jane Tucker vaporized when they were done.

I really don't know what to do.  I wish I had printed a hard copy of Jane after I adopted her.  Perhaps I need to go through my folder and see if overlooked it.

The history of changes that I linked to (https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Tucker-5568)  includes the name as Jane (before it was changed to Amanda) and the other information that you had, but the history is in several  pieces, and for some reason the summaries of the changes all include the name as Amanda, even though it was Jane when most of the changes were made.

The URL https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Tucker-5568&diff=163382256&oldid=163181905 will show you the combined effect of the changes that were made from the time of your last edit on December 17th until the LNAB was changed from Tucker to Unknown. That is content that you could paste into the data sections and text section of a new profile you create for Jane Tucker.

From other entries in the change history, it appears that her father's profile was Tucker-2324 (the father currently connected to Unknown-628535) and her marriage date was 1784.

There is NO data on the left-hand side.

The right-hand side seems odd to me.
Other than "Jane was born in 1765. Jane Tucker..." the rest of the information I had is missing.

On a WikiTree page put Tucker-5568 in the search box that has your last name.

You can start by clicking on the changes tab and contacting the member who merged her giving her the last name at birth of Unknown.

On the changes tab, you can also click on the old id number and see the previous profile info.

I haven't had much experience with this sort of thing so I hope that makes sense. If you can't collaborate with the other member, consider asking a mentor to help.

Good luck.

If you look at the notes on the Changes page it looks like someone is a bit misguided on how Wikitree works. Perhaps someone can help that person understand the big tree.
Yes, this is where a mentor may be able to help.
Thanks.  How do I get my Tucker-5568 profile back?
Thanks!

Hi Graeme! I followed Ellen's direction & have created a space page with the information in the profile prior to it being changed to Amanda Unknown to make it easier for you to re-create a profile for Jane Tucker. It is on a space page that is open.

  1. Go to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Noland-165_Sandbox_Eleven
  2. Click the Edit tab
  3. Select & Copy from == Biography == to just before == Sources ==
  4. Go to the profile for Jane's father - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tucker-2324
  5. Click the Edit tab
  6. Click the link for [add/remove child] - if you don't see it, search (Ctrl+f) for Amanda & you'll see the text link below a link for her profile
  7. In the window that opens, follow the steps to create a new profile
  8. Assuming you're not using the Beta version of adding profiles, scroll down to the Notes box and paste the info you copied from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Noland-165_Sandbox_Eleven into it
  9. Add a source in the Sources box
  10. Scroll back up to the datafield boxes and fill them in. If needed, refer to the bulleted datafield information at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Noland-165_Sandbox_Eleven
  11. Save the profile by clicking the button, "Add child of Curle Tucker", toward the bottom of the window

Once the profile has been created, attach the profile of her mother -  Margaret Herbert ([[UNKNOWN-172700]]). It looks like the husband & daughter (see info/WikiTree-IDs on the space page) that had been attached to Jane belonged to Amanda. So, one you remove Amanda Unknown from being daughter of Curle Tucker & Margaret Unknown, you should be good to go with a new profile for Jane Tucker.

Cheers, Liz

P.S. You asked how that could happen - I think that the change was made by a Profile Manager. A Last Name at Birth (which is the basis for a WikiTree-ID) can only be changed by a Profile Manager or WikiTree members with specific badges (such as a Project Leader badge). It is unfortunate that the change was made without discussion, but if you weren't also a Profile Manager, the person who made the change might not have thought it necessary. Seems this situation isn't as clear-cut as most that would require collaboration in advance of such changes per the Honor Code.

sorry - I got tangled up between coding on the space page and coding here - [[UNKNOWN-172700]] should have been https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/UNKNOWN-172700
I was the profile manager, after I adopted Tucker-5568 aka Jane Tucker
hmm. I'm at a loss then. If you adopted the profile, you should have been the only manager. But... I don't see a record of you becoming manager of Tucker-5568 - see https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Tucker-5568

You did adopt the profile for her mother, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/UNKNOWN-172700 - see https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=UNKNOWN-172700
I don't know what else to say except that I don't want to waste any more time on this as I have a clear path to action to re-establish Jane Tucker on WikiTree with a new ID number. And going forward, I will save a hard copy trail of my WikiTree adoptions or adds in real time.
