I have a great grandmother, Caterina Wink, born in 1852, in the same town as Herman. Her burial record gives her father’s name as Herman Wink. I’m guessing your Herman (b 1847) was my Caterina’s older brother. I am looking for Caterina’s parents

The profile says that Herman Wink was born in Bürgeln near Marburg. The protestant Bürgeln church registers have been scanned and are available online on Archion. Unfortunately that's a paysite. A 1-month pass is about 20 EUR. It is self terminating, i. e. you have no active membership or further fees after the pass has expired, if I am not mistaken.

Let me suggest you tag your post "Germany", in order to push it into more G2G feeds. With a little luck, a member with Archion access will join the conversation.

Hey Kathleen,

I am a little confused about the details of this request. I can see the Catharina Wink [Wenk-60] in your tree given as

Catharina Maria Louisa "Catherine, Kate" Munkelwitz formerly Wenk aka Wink

Born 29 Jan 1852 in Germany

So is this wrong or are you unsure? Just asking since you even have already parents attached, and I could not find a clue that gives you Bürgeln as place of birth.

Next mystery is the fact, that there is no Herman Wink born in Bürgeln in 1847. I even looked  in to a plus/minus 7 Year timeframe. So I have no clue there the information in the other profil  (Herman Wink) comes from. This is somethig that surely has to be double checked !!!

Nevertheless I can at least answer your question about the parents of Catharina Wink, born 1852 in Bürgeln: The record reads:

---------------------

[1852] geboren: 14. Januar, Abends neun Uhr; getauft: Ibid. 16. ejusd.: Katharina Wink, des Hermann Wink, Maurer, et ux. Katharina, geb. Hahn, Tochter; Taufpathen: Katharina, des Henrich Wink, Taglöhner, Ehefrau, geb. Ebert, des Vaters Bruders Frau.

Translation: born on January 14th, at 9 p.m., and baptizes on the 16th the same month: Katharina Wink, daugther of Hermann Wink, bricklayer, and his wife Katharina, née Hahn; godparent: Katharina, née Ebert, wife of Heinrich Wink, daylabourer, who is the brother of the childs father.

--------------------

source is to be found on archion.de under Landeskirchliches Archiv Kassel > MarburgLand > Bürgeln > Taufen 1830-1912; page 76.

Hope it helps. To do more it would take a lot of double checking and clearing up.

Thank you for your response and assistance. Despite my bumbling, you gave me exactly the information that I wanted. More, actually. I now have an idea why Kate traveled alone to the woods of Wisconsin - probably to join her godmother - the Ebert family appears in church records for the church in which Kate was married.

I have much work to do to straighten out Kate’s profile. I am grateful for your help!

For whatever it's worth, I've twice contacted the tree manager who has Herman as born in 1847 in Burgeln.  I 've asked if he has written documentation for this. Im suspecting that the birth location is oral family history. Let's see if he answers me.

His tree also has Hermans mother as Caterina Ebert. Interesting.

Fnally, I spent a very pleasant morning rumaging around the Archion site. I didn't find anything, and am frustrated by the handwriting.  Thank you for that.

Kate
