Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: 2022 Top Newsmakers [closed]

2022 will soon draw to a close, so we're reviewing some of the biggest names that made the news this year in the Connection Finder next week, starting with King Charles III, who ascended to the throne after his beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth II's death.

Here's who we're getting started on:

Can you help with these profiles, or expand their families? Adding relatives in any direction helps with connections. Every missing relative you add will make our connections to them closer.

Who else should we feature? We can't feature everyone who is nominated (we only have room for eleven per week), but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

Take note that this is not the place to discuss why you think we shouldn't feature someone if those reasons are due to politics, actions, or opinions of those being suggested.  Mentioning things like their not being connected, their biography still needing work, erroneous information, etc. are all suitable for discussion here and an opportunity to correct those situations.

Help us plan Connection Finder themes for 2023 here.

Thank you, Abby (and thank you to all the WikiTreers who work so hard to connect and improve our weekly featured connections).

As much as it disgusts me to see Putin here, it does emphasize the point that inclusion in the Connection Finder, or WikiTree in general, is not an endorsement or celebration of the person.

I agree. I cringed when I saw his name. But his name here is not celebrating him in any way so I have to set my personal disgust aside.

Maya Lin, designer of the United States Vietnam Veterans Memorial, was named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2022. Her recent focus is on geology and the fragility of the Earth's ecosystem.

The loss of Louise Tobin at 104 in November reflects the last of her era. Until her passing, she was the last living jazz singer to have been recorded before 1940.  She was also recognized as the discoverer of Frank Sinatra.  Her profile was recently connected.

There is an existing living profile for a Zelenskyy. If it's not Volodymyr, I'd be happy to create his.

Thanks, Paul. I don't know why it didn't show up the several variations I tried searching for it earlier. I have updated the post. It is currently unconnected, though, so anyone who wants tom give that a try is welcome.
It's not publicly editable, so no one but the Trusted List can edit his profile.

I'll add two Liz's

Liz Truss MP - shortest UK Prime Minister term in history

Liz Cheney - US Representative - no profile yet but could easily be added to her dad who is here.

Liz Cheney does have a profile, and it is attached to her father. However, it's currently locked and would need to be opened in order to be used in the Connection Finder.

Thank you, David. I didn’t see it so I thought she didn’t have one yet.
Thank you, Shonda and David.

It's great to see Ketanji Jackson on the list and thankfully we have her connected already! We'll just need to expand her biography.

I agree! So glad to see her here!

Seems like so many of this year's top stories weren't associated with an individual person: inflation, omicron, midterm elections, climate issues, etc.

This might be a stretch, but how about Norma McCorvey, "Jane Roe" of Roe v. Wade? She has a full profile and is connected. All she needs is a photo.

How about a couple of stories from outside of the hard news...

1) The retirement of one of the greatest athletes of all time, Serena Williams.

2) The recipient of the "slap heard around the world", Chris Rock.

Given the current situation, I’m not sure that publishing Zelensky’s family connections is wise. I am concerned that any connections could be targeted. Privacy controls should likely go back an extra generation at least.

How about Ireen Wüst? The first athlete to win an individual gold medal in 5 consecutive Olympics.
