Is there a new problem with Ancestry's sharing link?

Recently I noticed that when I click on an Ancestry sharing link, it says "This record was shared with you" instead of the usual "Discovered by G. Cormier", and the image is blurred. You need to click on View Full Record to see the image. However for someone who doesn't have a subscription to Ancestry, login (and maybe subscription?) is required. Is this a glitch?

Hi Gisele.  See if this earlier discussion addresses the problem you're seeing with the ancestry links:

Ancestry recently switched from their old style sharing links (V1) to their new ones (V2).

The V1 links allowed you to zoom in on the image but this function is not (yet) implemented for the V2 links.

There are a couple of ways to view the full size image. Let's use an example from your linked profile. This is the sharing link:

https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/335883?token=817026cbce890c4450826ec99202107ba090d33b57e1a927acf7692f28b02367

First way:

  1. Right click on the image and do "Open Image in New Tab"
  2. At first this doesn't seem to help but... you can see that the URL in this new tab is: https://mediasvc.ancestry.com/v2/image/namespaces/1091/media/d13p_5320173.png?securityToken=xw45353a813c6c6531879dd8acf7636ba5e9313f7a99db0000&maxWidth=520
  3. If you click at the end of the URL and erase back to, and including the last & you get this: https://mediasvc.ancestry.com/v2/image/namespaces/1091/media/d13p_5320173.png?securityToken=xw45353a813c6c6531879dd8acf7636ba5e9313f7a99db0000
  4. Do that and press return. Now you can see the full image.

Second way:

If you have the WikiTree Sourcer extension installed. On the sharing page bring up the Sourcer menu and select "Go to Full Size Sharing Image Page". This does this first method for you in one click.
