Two Mary Stewarts are connected as daughters to William Stewart on FamilySearch. Only one of them is connected to him as a daughter here on WikiTree.
Which one is correct, if either?
William Stewart, FamilySearch ID LCJT-DX7, was supposedly in Virginia (birth in 1762, marriage in 1783), in Oglethorpe, Georgia (after 1781, for 30-40 years), Monroe County, Georgia (1830 Census, 1837 second marriage), and Schley County, Georgia (death in 1848.)
Mary "Polly" Stewart, FamilySearch ID LCCN-Y6C - According to the information here on WikiTree, this Mary Stewart was born in South Carolina in 1782. Her Find a Grave says she was born in Virginia in 1792. The location of this Mary Stewart's marriage in 1816 was in Jackson County, Georgia.
Mary Stewart, FamilySearch ID MYHY-WQP: There is a family history in a book called Macon County Life which alleges that the Mary Stewart who was the daughter of William Stewart was the Mary Stewart who married Marlin Edge. A link to a photocopy of the page on which this information was published can be found attached to Mary Stewart's profile on FamilySearch. https://www.familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/125285940?cid=mem_copy No sources are attached to this family history article. This Mary Stewart was born in Georgia in about 1807 (info from 1850 Census.) Her Find a Grave alleges she was born in Macon County. According to the article in the book this Mary Stewart and her husband Marlin Edge began their married life in Marion County then moved to Macon County. (1850, 1860, 1870 Census records in Macon County.) Oldest child on 1850 Census would have them married 1830 or before. (Some family trees give marriage date as 30 Apr 1830.) The death certificate of one of their daughters confirms that her mother's maiden name was Stewart.
If you have any information which could help determine which Mary Stewart was the true daughter of William Stewart, I would appreciate you passing it along or adding it to their profiles. Thanks!
