Thanks for sharing. There were a few details and pictures I hadn't read or seen before. A few of the accused are in my family tree. In fact, a paternal relative (Orlando Bagley) arrested and transported a maternal relative (Susannah Martin) to await trial and later hung.

Just be aware that the NEHS is not a historical society, it is a media company (news and advertising).  There are no sources quoted, only a couple for Wikipedia graphics.  Take it all with a grain of salt and do your own research.

I just watch on PBS, History of Witches in Scotland.  Whole Witch hunts seem to have started there, under King James VI, then crossed into the new World..  King James VI even had a pamphlet printed about Witches and sent to England.

witchcraft pamphlet Newes from Scotland, originally printed in London in 1591. It contains accounts of three women accused of witchcraft and tried before King James VI of Scotland, one of whom was said to be using her witchcraft against the King himself. James caused the pamphlet to be printed as part of his attack on witchcraft. The woodcut illustrations depict scenes from the alleged acts, including the casting of spells over a cauldron.

That is very interesting insight !

I believe his profile in relation to your answer is James Charles (Stuart) Stuart King James VIth of Scots and Ist of England (1566 - 1625)

Thank you yes
