Russland meaning Russian Empire, or Russland, Orkney, Scotland

Question

The passenger list (linked on profile) gives Reinhard's birthplace as Russland.  Many researchers on Ancestry.ca have equated this with Russland, Orkney, Scotland, but based on the surnames of the family members and the fact that just prior to embarking on the voyage this couple was living in Ekritten, a more continental origin seems more likely to me.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I added the full Ancestry Source citation to Reinhardt's Profile.  It has all the data in it so that anyone in future can see he wasn't from Scotland.

Please note, the Ancestry Template points to Ancestry.US.  I changed the Ancestry Sharing Template to point to Ancestry.CA using the url you supplied, but could not do so with the Ancestry Record Template and this should be updated to point to Ancestry.CA.  I would, but I don't have access to that Ancestry and so I couldn't get the correct database ID and database index number to update it.

If the passenger list was written in German, then Russland is 300% Russia.

There are also two dwelling places/ small villages in Niedersachsen und Schleswig-Holstein which are called Rußland.

The passenger list is in German, most of the passengers are from Germany, and it is leaving from a German port. The nationality of most of the passengers is something like Preussen-Deutsch or Sachsen-Deutsch, with a few being Russland, and one Cs. Slovak.

Thus Russia is the logical conclusion.
