Thank you Lorraine

I’m looking for his dad James Mathis or Mathews they are so many on wikitree I believe one census says he was from Burke, County, North Carolina. Do you have anything. His dad James seems to be born between 1813 thru 1820 going by census can’t determine which date to put down for James.

I would use the 1850 census for the birth date, if a better source comes along you can always change it. I pick the earliest record assuming better memories and best chance of being close to right.

Also on the 1850 Census James gives his birth location as Burke. That should help narrow the search.

Arta and Madison both are  born in Macon.

If you look at the next image of the 1850 Census you will see an older couple, James and Prudence Matthews, followed by two more Matthews households. Betting they are all family.  Possibly James and Prudence could be James parents.

Also on the 1850 Census, above James and family, you will see a Peter Matthews...also born in Burke and only 8 years older than James. Betting he is a brother.
Ok Thanks.

Ok I found https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/12848151:8054?tid=&pid=&queryId=081d480c0e72523803cc97e80d014094&_phsrc=evP15&_phstart=successSource

Trying to sort it all out not sure John and Prudence can be the parents of Peter she is listed age 60 on the 1850 census

Thanks again for helping

Got a Peter Mathis b. 1812 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mathis-1600

Got a David Mathis b.1819  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mathis-1318

Got a James Mathis b. 1820 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mathis-3468

Got a Andrew Mathis b. 1818https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Mathis-3473

And got a Peter Mathis b.1798 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mathis-1598

Just looking at a FS tree that says Peter Mathis b. 1791 (matches Mathis-1598) and a Sarah Sally Frady are parents of James Mathis-3468 (Madison's father) .

But can't see any sources attached that proves it.

Some conflation or duplication going on, I see that Peter Mathis-1600  and Peter Mathis-1598 profiles have the same wife. On this FS tree that wife is attached to Peter Mathis b. 1791. This may take some unraveling.

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LVSC-5B8

Whoops, my mistake...not the same wife on Mathis-1600 and Mathis-1598

Ok looking now to see

Should I add James Mathis-3468 as son of Peter Mathis-1598 or hold off.
I just looked, you already attached him I see. You have no proof though its likely. Just because FS tree shows the relationship, without a reliable source its uncertain. So I will update profiles as I go along. Was already starting a tidy up.
Ok I appreciate all the help.
