how to change a LNAB from the fathers to the mothers because the child was born out of wedlock [closed]

OK I have finally found the birth record for a child who was born before his parents were married but noone picked up on this. No birth record could be found under his fathers surname so I went looking for his mothers maiden name and sure enough I found the birth record.

Trouble is that the child already has a profile with his fathers surname, but that was NOT his LNAB.

This is the profile in question - see the research notes I posted today.

So how should this profile be changed?

LNAB - Wadsworth,

Current surname - Connell

I have no idea if any formal official adoption was done or if this was all unofficial.

Thank you.

There are many examples of this in NZ. It is debatable whether there would have been a formal adoption or if the surname was valid through usage and repute. I’ve seen legally adopted people in that time frame revert to their birth name at marriage etc., and NZBDM and probates have a few AKA examples. Even now, there are children in schools with a “used” surname and a legal surname. (Checking exam entries is always revealing.)
Profile LNAB has been changed - It is now -

I guess I can CLOSE this question now.

Last Name at Birth should be Wadsworth and Current Surname Connell.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I experienced a similar situation to yours. Yet the person I was researching was born under the father's surname, no marriage record has been found for the parents. The person's mother later married a man who was not the father and the child took on that man's surname.

You are the profile manager, so you can go ahead and change the name.

Click the edit tab and then the edit link next to the Last name at birth field. Change the name, provide a brief explanation and click save.
