No save for Categorisation only. Is this an intended behaviour?

I've noticed recently that clicking "Categorisation" alone after editing does not make a profile saveable. I have to add one of the other choices. Before a week or so (?) ago, categorisation was sufficient. Was this an intended change?

Update 30th Nov: Should change this to "randomly failing to respond to radio buttons when trying to save". The Save button can remain dark until two radio buttons are selected. For over a week it was just categorisation, but since last night, it is no longer just categorisation.

Have you tried typing it in, instead of using those preset radio choices?  (I have no problem just adding a category, or more than one category.  But then, I also always use my own edit reasons.)
Ah yes, a workaround is simple enough. I just thought it odd.

Just to double check, I added some more voyages, and one wouldn't save with categorisation alone, but the other did, which was quite perverse.

I did think what if I cleared the browser cache, but i then thought that would wipe saved passwords and make for a bit of tedious chaos, so I'll just keep working round it.
I use the "categorisation" radio button to save very often and never had any problems.

I'll grant you that I use it only if I made category changes to the profile (edit, add or remove a category tag).

As a test, I just added a category to a profile, clicked on Categorization as the edit reason, and it saved.  You might try added the tech tag to your question, maybe one of our technical experts can figure it out.

Did the same - added category using the category picker, touching nothing else, using the preset "Categorisation" explanation. No problem saving.

Alan,

I have had several problems when adding categories.  If the category already exists, there does not seem to be an issue, however if it does not and there is a message with "save anyway" that seems to be a problem.  In two cases I had to got to a free space page - add the new category there and then I was able to save the profile.  I have not yet determined exactly where the problem exists but there is something wrong when trying to add a new category on a profile.

In one case I left the profile.  Came back to it, there was a message that there was an open edited profile, I selected it and was able to move forward.

Yes, I get that one too, but there's a topic on it, so we're not alone with that one.
Philip, is the issue that you are pressing "Stay" on the browser popup instead of "Leave"? As Alan said, it's already been discussed and is on the list of things to change.

Alan, I think this is some type of irregular technical glitch. Until yesterday I had no problems using any of the preset options. Yesterday I  clicked 'Minor Corrections' and the profile would not save. I tried again later and it worked. I attributed the problem to the low capacity of the notepad and internet connection where I am working today.

P.S. (Adding an extra comment 3 hours after my original.) The previous technical questions in 'G2G' have been about a similar problem saving a draft. The problem is not consistent. I only saw it for the first time yesterday.

This morning, it's "Adding sources" it's failing to respond to. Irregular, erratic even.. but can be worked around.

It's probably not random.

Some questions to try to see what is causing the issue:

- Did this start on the 23rd when we re-enabled autosaving or did it start happening before then?

- What browser and device are you using?

- Are you using the enhanced editor or the normal one?

- Are you using the category picker, pasting in, or typing in the category?

- Are you manually saving a draft before choosing one of the default options?

- Did you look at the diff at all before choosing one of the default options?

- When this has happened were you working on a reloaded draft, or was it a new draft you started?

@Jamie, I was not able to fully save after changing one letter from 'y' to 't', and pressing 'minor correction'.

- yes, this was after 23rd

- Google Chrome, Acer Notepad (I was more concerned about the slow internet where I am today)

-normal editor

- I used the category picker 'minor correction'

-No, I had not saved a draft. I only wanted to fully save the minor correction

-No, I did not look at my options. I was only changing one letter

- I was working on the first thing that Wikitree presents when you press the 'Edit' button on a profile.
Have these been really quick edits (less than a minute), or has this happened when you have made more detailed edits?

If it's only happening on fast edits, I wonder if not all the scripts are loaded by the time you press the change explanation option.
I can not answer your question. I have only seen this problem one time after a quick, small edit.
It seems possible to me that the scripts had not loaded.
Edit time makes no difference I can pick.

Yes, since the change in interface.

Standard editor

Sometimes typing, sometimes pasting in the category. Does not seem to make a difference.

Not intentionally saving drafts, but sometimes accidentally.

category picker..what I call the "radio buttons"?

Windows 10 PC and Firefox.

I rarely reload a draft.

"Look at the diff"? If you mean difference between original and edited, that can vary from major to minor.

Category picker is the tool found as .

Radio buttons are the Examples:

Ah, well as I'm mostly entering voyages not previously entered, no the category picker is rarely involved.
Are you still having issues with this? We made a few bug fixes, but I wasn't able to pinpoint exactly what was going wrong with this so I'm not sure if the things we fixed were the issue, or if I still need to investigate.
Still buggy. No guarantee that clicking a radio button will light up the full save option. Frequently have to activate another button. Most often "Categorization" fails, but sometimes it activates the Full Save. Can happen with others too.
Very curious problem. I've just added a category to 2 profiles. The 'Categorization' radio button worked without any problem.

Here it is, "doing it" for the normally less troublesome "Adding Sources".

I came across similar non-save option when doing some automatic corrections, which enter the changes in the space for that.  It would not light up the full save button.  I found that clicking on the space for the change descriptions and just going to the end of them fixed it, the save button then lit up.

Looks to me like a teething problem. I like the recent (23rd Oct?) system changes in Wikitree to preserve a draft.
