Who were the parents of David Dudley?

Currently, David is connected to Capt. Roger Dudley-200 and Susannah Thorne-41. Through the connection to his mother he shows Magna Carta and Royal lines. He is also shown to be the brother of Gov. Thomas Dudley-129.

Douglas Richardson writes about Roger Dudley and Susan Thorne in Vol 2 of Royal Ancestry, on page 476, where he says Roger "married Susan Thorne, daughter of Thomas Thorne, Gent., and Mary Purefoy, on 8 Jun 1575 at Lidlington, Bedfordshire, England; they had 1 son, Gov Thomas, Esq., and 1 daughter, Mary." (see:http://our-royal-titled-noble-and-commoner-ancestors.com/p2992.htm#i89885)

On David's son's profile (William Dudley-30), it quotes the "Whittlesey Family," published in published in "Genealogical and Personal Memorial of MERCER COUNTY NEW JERSEY, Volume 1, The Lewis Publishing Company, 1907, saying "There have been efforts to connect William Dudley with the more illustrious Governor Thomas Dudley, of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, but a relationship has never been established." The same article fails to connect this William with another potential father, Daniel Dudley.

Do we have a source that connects David Dudley-285 to the parents he is currently attached to?

If we don't have any proof we'll be removing this connection.

Thanks

Sorry People to throw a spanner in the works!1

David DUDLEY of Dorking, Surrey (being 3 miles from where I currently live) was NOT the son of Capt. Roger Dudley and Susannah Thorne.

I can find no reference to David Dudley’s father being Captain Roger Dudley.  Captain Roger Dudley and Susanna Thorne’s children were Thomas b. 1576 in Yardly Hastings, Northamptonshire, Mary b. 1580 in London, Richard b. 1583 in London, Dorothy b. 1585 in London.  NOWHERE NEAR DORKING, SURREY.

It is possible, of course, that David may have been an illegitimate son but I would expect to find some documentation, somewhere – and I can’t find anything.

I am a direct descendent from David DUDLEY.  My DNA has been tested by FamilyTree DNA.

Sorry to disappoint - I really don't know why some people feel the need to manipulate historic records so that they can say they are descended from UK royalty.   Perhaps it is just bad research.  I am a realist, not a wannabe.

At first glance, wikipedia lists David as one of five children of Roger Dudley, without providing a source.

David Dudley lived in Dorking, Surrey, where Roger Dudley's family lived.  Here is a summary of David's immediate family, with eldest son Thomas (named for his elder brother?): https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/soc.genealogy.surnames/rMl1284-t_0

And here is reference to David Dudley's will in NEHGR back in 1900: https://books.google.com/books?id=ONyBYniOsxwC&pg=PA95&lpg=PA95&dq=david+dudley+dorking+surrey&source=bl&ots=APtlpJgrRx&sig=9osRz38EpgUFmuaNDbCmjtjWGV8&hl=en&sa=X&ei=VET3VPjJEoezogSB8YEw&ved=0CFcQ6AEwCg#v=onepage&q=david%20dudley%20dorking%20surrey&f=false

Off on a tangent, here's an interesting study using indirect evidence: "Roger Dudley's Father Proved to be Captain Henry Dudley": http://www.familypage.org/RogerSonoHenry.pdf  For whatever it's worth, this was noticed by Douglas Richardson, who didn't join the nay-sayers.

Thanks, John.

A quick timeline from the changes and a note from another discussion I've had on this:

9 Mar 2011 - merged - father appears as Thomas Dudley-129 (Governor mentioned earlier), mother Dorothy Dudley (Yorke-44).

17 Jan 2013 - merged - no change in parents

24 Jul 2013 - merged - no change in parents

23 Mar 2014 - message "this person can not be the child of Yorke-44 who was born three years after him"

1 Apr 2014 - message "... I believe his father is listed incorrectly as Thomas Dudley. His father and mother should be Roger Dudley and Susannah Thorne and Thomas is actually his older brother. My basis for this is that they are only three years apart in age and both Thomas and Roger have wikipedia entries, where Roger has a younger son named David."

22 Jul 2014 - merged - no change in parents

25 Jul 2014 - removed the mother, removed the father, edited bio to read "proposed parents (at Ancestry.com and other user generated online sources) are impossible due to ages. His parents were NOT Thomas Dudley and Dorothy (Yorke) Dudley."

16 Aug 2014 - new (current) mother and father added. The old father, Thomas Dudley-129 has now become a brother.

4 Mar 2015 - in discussing addition of new parents with provider of information, confirmed the source was wikipedia with a note saying "and the fact that David was already present on wikitree as a relative of Thomas Dudley (meaning someone had made the connection previously though we don't know on what basis)"
