Chris, I am afraid you have either misread the record you have found, or made a mistake in setting out what you found. It is a Quaker record for a "Gillesby" family on FindMyPast at https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=TNA%2FRG6%2FBAP%2F1689819. The image reads "Archibald son of William and Jane Gillesby was born … 17 of June 1724. Jane his wife was born 28 January 1726. Abigaill daughter of William and Jane Gillesby was born 3 of March 1722." Clearly the Abigaill mentioned was a sister of Archibald. There is no mention in this record of any children of Archibald and his wife Jane. There is nothing in this record to indicate the last name at birth of his wife Jane. So, to spell out the obvious, what this record gives us is the following
William and Jane Gillesby, birth dates not given, had two children:
- Archibald, born 17 June 1724, who married Jane, last name at birth not stated, who was born on 28 January 1726
- Abigaill, born 3 March 1722
As I have already indicated, if - as seems clearly to have been the case - Archibald and his children were a Quaker family, I am not sure that a Jane Pearson who married Archibald "Glassby” on 7 June 1750 according to the transcript on Familysearch was the mother of Archibald Gillespy's oldest child Anne who was born on 10 October 1750 according to an image of a Quaker family record linked to on Anne's profile. The Quakers in the 18th century were not given to having marriages of someone who was pregnant, and there would almost certainly have been Quaker disciplinary action. The 1750 wedding may not have been a Quaker one, and it may be for a different couple.
I have found no record which confirms the last name at birth of Archibald Gillespy's wife.
