En op Discord via de netherlands-dutch roots channel. Wat veel sneller en directer werkt maar wat begrijpelijker wijze niet iedereen kan of wil gebruiken dus we chatten hier ook! And of course at the netherlands-dutch roots channel at Discord. What works much faster and better, but not everyone can or likes to use Discord understandably so we chat here too!

Connect-a-Thon is held from Friday, July 23, 2021 at 8 am(EDT) untill Monday, July 26, 2021, at 8 am (EDT)

Simply click   Anwer this post   at the top of the page saying something like "Yes I'd like to participate" along with the Team you like to join (Team Flying Dutchmen of course!). Add your WT-ID to the participants list at our teampage.

What we ask of you?

- You promised to abide the WT Honor Code. That means we expect you add (links to reliable/original) sources at any info you add at profiles especially at pre-1700 profiles, please. Need help?? Ask us, we are always very happy to help.

-To prevent creating duplicates, please first find the original birth or baptism note. Follow the spelling there, even if it differs from other family members. If a birth or baptism note is not findable ask for help. We all love to search. If it is not findable use the spelling of the oldest doc that was findable (WT rule!).

- Read the Dutch Naming Convention as they are different from other Project Conventions. At least do not ever use a "Middle Name" at Dutch profiles. And please read the Project page on LNAB's Thank you!

- DO NOT CREATED Pre-1700 profiles without original and reliable sources PLEASE. WT is monitoring Pre-1700 profiles verrry strict.

Wat vragen we van jou bij deelname?

- Je hebt de Honorcode onderschreven. Dus we verwachten dat je originele bronnen gebruikt bij alles wat je toevoegt aan profilielen Vooral aan Pre-1700 profielen. .Hulp nodig? Vraag het ons, we helpen altijd heel graag.

-Om het creeren van duplicaten te voorkomen op WT - 1 profiel voor elk persoon dat leefde - vindt het orginele doop of geboorte document voor je een profiel maakt. Volg/gebruik de spelling van het geboorte document of de doop notatie zelfs als het afwijkt van de familie naam.. Last Name At Birth is de regel.

- Lees de DRP Naming Convention pagina, ajb. De Nederlandse manier van namen toevoegen op WT is anders dan voor andere projecten. En wij gebruiken NOOIT "Middle Names. We raden öok aan om ook de pagina's van ons project over LNAB's te lezen.

- Maak GEEN pre-1700 profielen aan zonder verwijzingen naar originele bronnen van BMD (Birth/geboorte of doop, Marriage/trouwen and/or Death/begraven of overlijden) . WT kijkt heel nauw mee op pre-1700 profielen!

Hi Sailors!

We had some strong winds against us but I think we are doing great!

Wonderful we are ranked 15. That is of course not as good as what we are used to but we are with a smaller group here and some groups are very B I G.


One more day!!! I hope we just can stay to rank 15. JUST ONE MORE DAY. Please do as much as you can.

Niek is doing such a great job. Wonder how you managed Niek! TY!

Now all others do a great job as well. Always consider every add counts.Even just one. None does not!

BTW:

Discord is a great way  to communicate right away. So if you have not joined it yet please do.

It is kind of complicated to get in, to be honest. I do not know how I got in to it but I did. But many seniors like me were able, so come on!!! Here is the help page at WT how to get in: Help:Discord

One more day. Just let us try together to keep the 15th place. We do not need golden medals. We just need to make the tree better. Thank you for doing that!

En het is over! It's over. Wow, weet niet hoe het met jullie vinger is maar die van mij willen wel even rust. Do not know how your fingers feel but mine can use some rest.

We did great! Even ended at the 14th place! Thank you all for participating. Goed gedaan allemaal. We zijn uiteindelijk zelfs nog als 14de geeindigd.

So Tactics, Now This Might A BIt Obvious:

1. Do some research beforehand.

2. Try to make "BMD Profiles" (Just try to find sources for Birth/Baptism, Marriage and Death).

3. Plan your time to incorporate the Thon.

4. Work on your watchlist or somewhere you most probably won't find others making new profiles.

I think it just depends on where your searching, direct ancestors etc. Another good tactic, add siblings meaning there are more profiles to create.

Ik wilde Discord voor Windows op mijn laptop downloaden en installeren, maar kreeg van F-Secure de waarschuwing om niet naar de website van discordapp.com, omdat Ziggo Safe Online deze website als schadelijk heeft aangemerkt.
Voor mij dus geen Discord.

Here's a fun one: Last April, during the Clean-A-Thon (I think), I adopted a profile in order to correct the LNAB.[De_la_Beij-3]  It was about the only profile I own that is unconnected, so I started to work on it.  Eventually after adding his parents and siblings, I started working on his siblings spouses.  One of the names looked a bit familiar.  It turns out that this random person's brother was married to my great-great grandmother's sister.  Small world!

Just figured out the ancestor of someone I'm helping had two wives, they were sisters. That must have been an interesting sibling relationship.

Always wondered how small our was. Just figured it must be the size of a pinhead.

Hahahaa Jayme told me two days ago she was working on someone that divorced and then married the sister of the woman he divorced from. That must have caused a lot of fun in the family! Ouch!

We wrap up at 2:00 pm SAST tomorrow so keep the good work going. I was especially amazed by the high numbers today . I was surprised to see 1000 on the board and even more by 1359.

Found a Janse van Rensburg cousin with a huge family tree. Let's just say the 21st century didn't stop them from keeping big families.

Top scorer, thank God for Niek sneaking up my behind, how did he go from 200 to 288 so fast. I spent hours doing that.

Challenge cheerleader, ok, maybe? Loving the adds part (Just call me the Football Star.  Only for the Connect-a-Thon though. Don't worry you know, I wonder if anyone else will prep next year. Tell the Mighty Oaks to forget about it. )

Preparations certainly helped. I got at least 130 from that. Next year my preps will be to try rival Leandra Ford and Emma MacBeth . 

I'm definitely not getting a big head. Oh god, where is that pin. Ow, ow, ow. All better. (Sweet one is back. )

Seems the Connect-a-Thon is finished. I hope you guys are prepping for the Source-a-Thon already. 

We finish in 14th place. A little low but we were a bit short of members this time around. The total number of profiles created was 74,640 of which we made an impressive 2058.  (That's from less than 1000 yesterday. ) Congratulations to our Top 3 connectors:

Francis Lehman with 742 (Ranking: 17) (Just wondering where this other Francis guy came from. ) (Just checked the participant's list and I'm in a real knot, anyone anything about him.)

Niek Boevé with 321 (Ranking: 52)

Joke van Veenendaal with 177 (Ranking: 119)

And as always Astrid sits in the fourth position. Keep striving and put your minds to the test. As Nelson Mandela said:

TY Francis for being such a big sport. I will invite you to be my quartermaster in command as you learned so much and so fast last half year at WT, you took every chance to learn and I admire you for that - and you are the future of WT. As you are very fast you must have time to take care of all quartermasters are responsible for like providing clothing, rations lol. But also steering!

Quartermasters sound busy. Better start passing the gruel out. Everyone line up. Wait everyone hates gruel. I feel betrayed.  Just kidding, I feel elated for the jump in ranks and to think it started off with Debi saying you should become a mentor and somehow it was you who got me. You are the best mentor I've seen yet. You taught this chick to fly and now we can glide in beautiful spectacles of twirls and loop de loops.
