Looking for present descendants of William Woodbury, married Elizabeth, from Wales and settled in New England.

I have a family tree for the Woodbury Family 1628 to1882 created in 1882 by H.A. Jones (father was Amos Woodbury).

The tree indicates that Willaim Woodbury was the father of the Woodbury family who settled in Beverly, MA with his wife Elizabeth.

I would like to see this family tree go to the present family if possible or for historic usage.

Please reply and thank you.

Welcome, Patricia

The steps to start on WikiTree are:

1. Become a full member (free), instructions are on your profile page; and

2. Start building your tree by putting in your details (that will be private since you are living) and then adding your parents, then grandparents, etc. and giving as many sources as you have. That is the way to connect to the big tree and to find ancestors.

Come back here to G2G any time with questions, take advantage of the "intro to WikiTree" that is in the Help Menu on this page and the offers made by the greeters on your page.

Great to have you.

I interpret this family tree as being an artifact, perhaps a framed tree that Patricia would like to pass on to a descendant. Unfortunately, I know nothing about this family.

Hi Patricia Jones,

From your description, the WikiTree profile you are seeking is William Woodbury, Sr. (about 1589-1677), who married Elizabeth Patch at South Petherton, Somerset, England, 29 January 1616.

See William Woodbury, Sr.

See Elizabeth Patch

If you are able to access current issues of New England Historical and Genealogical Register, you will be pleased to find a Summer 2021 article addressing several generations of William's family.

See David Curtis Dearborn and John Bradley Arthaud, "William^1 Woodbury of Salem and Beverly, Massachusetts," New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 175 (2021):207-222. Note: The Summer 2021 issue is available for download by subscription at  AmericanAncestors.

William Woodbury, Sr. had an older brother who also immigrated, John Woodbury (abt. 1579 - aft. 1641).

See: John Woodbury

Hope this helps. --Gene

Hello!

William Woodbury, Sr. of Beverly, MA  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodbury-203 is my 9th gg uncle.  His brother John Woodbury https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodbury-148 is my 9th ggf. through my great grandmother.  She happened to marry a man (my gg) whose 1st name was Woodbury. How ironic. I'm seeing their parents as John and Agnes?

You wrote, "She happened to marry a man (my gg) whose 1st name was Woodbury."

That is really something.

You wrote, "I'm seeing their parents as John and Agnes?" Am working currently to update both profiles, thus have also seen the links to "John and Agnes."

This association looks too much like the entry in FamilySearch FamilyTree reporting the immigrant, John Woodbury PID L5DQ-DNN (1583-1641), is married to Agnes Napper (she is PIDs L5RP-5B8 and GZVM-P6T), but is also the son of Agnes Napper (PID GZLG-X77

Many, many scholarly articles have been published about the brothers, John and William Woodbury. None of those authors were successful in identifying their parentage. This includes Dearborn and Arthaud, who published the Summer 2021 article, "William^1 Woodbury of Salem and Beverly, Massachusetts.

Of your 9th ggf, Robert Charles Anderson wrote (1995), "John Woodbury was a conscientious man, who in his few years as part of Salem government, did more than others accomplished in much longer lives. He was present for every selectmen's meeting until death interrupted him in mid-stride in the winter of 1641."

Quite a legacy.

Thank you for supporting WikiTree. --Gene

Thank you so much Gene. What a wealth of information and a great update to  my 9th ggf John Woodbury's profile.https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodbury-148 . It was lovely to see the respect and accomplishments he accrued during his lifetime.  The search goes on for the parents of John and his brother William. wink

Warm regards,

Faylene
