Information on ancestors from Kiev

I'm looking for information on my maternal great grandparents and their ancestors.

My great grandfather, Jacobo Meer Aizenstein was born in 1884.  The info I have says that he was born in Savr (Podolf), Russia and died in Argentina, but I don't believe this is correct.  I think the family didn't go to Argentina until the next generation.  Jacobo was a writer and I have found a copy of a book (in yiddish). It mentions that at 12 years old he was a carpenter in Odessa.

His daughter (my grandmother Sofia Dain, was born in 1907 but I don't know where.  She died in 1985 in Buenos Aires.

My great grandmother was Maria Wainberg, born in 1884 in "Russia".  The info I have also says she died in Argentina in 1969 but I believe this is incorrect.

I've tried many databases focusing on Ukraine records and Jewish records, but no luck.  I'm totally new at this and I would appreciate any pointers you can give me.
