I'm seeking the location of the firing squad execution of my Confederate 2nd Great Uncle John Calvin Hawkins in late December 1863 in Izard or Fulton County Arkansas or Howell County Missouri by forces of the 1st Nebraska Volunteer Cavalry commanded by Robert Ramsey Livingston.

He was a Conf. Bushwacker,So they did not bother to

do any records.

Yes he was a confederate bushwhacker, so my thinking that the Provost Marshal at Batesville, AR associated with the 1st Nebraska Volunteer Cavalry would have made a report is a pipe dream.

We never would have known about his execution and William Monks murdering his brother Benjamin F Hawkins in 1864, unless Monks bragged about doing the deeds in his book "A History of Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas.

The papers of Robert Ramsey Livingston can be found at the Nebraska History Museum.  The finding aid for the collection covers his Civil War service time.  The papers may mention the event.
