Hopefully, someone with Ancestry subscriber access can vet this person's reputed entry (I hope I copied the record ID correctly).

Original data: Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970. Louisville, Kentucky: National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Microfilm: {{Ancestry Record|2204|896742}}.

Caveats: he was born in 1770 and no matches come up that could be he in the SAR Patriot database.

Noting that his father has a DAR record (A019773) that Ancestry indexes on db=2204 and h=896744:

U.S., Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970

The Ancestry record you cited is actually an application for SAR membership on Jesse Carroll through Jesse's son John.  Per the DAR records: John Carroll's father Jesse Carroll served as a soldier.  Jesse Carroll's DAR number: A019773.  DAR list Jesse Carroll as born ca. 1750 Granville County, NC and died 16 August 1801 Duplin County, North Carolina.  John Carroll is shown as being from Jesse Carroll's marriage to Mary Gavin, born ca. 1752 - died ca. 1810; married ca. 1769.
