Profiles need a “Copy WikiTree ID to clipboard” button.

The process for connecting two existing profiles, e.g. husband and wife, involves entering the WikiTree ID of either of the profiles into the other’s profile (Edit > add/remove spouse). This is done either by hand-entering the ID, which is error prone, or by copying and pasting the ID, which is recommended, I’m sure; however this requires careful copying of just the WikiTree ID portion of the profile’s URL from the browser’s URL field. This, also, can introduce errors if the correct characters are not selected. Regardless of the whether an error has been introduced, either technique is awkward and not a good user experience.

I suggest adding a button to profile pages that will copy the profile’s WikiTree ID to the clipboard so that the ID can easily and accurately be pasted into to the spouse’s WikiTree ID box.

I wouldn't have asked this had I seen Make WikiTree IDs easier to Copy, but it didn't show up when I entered my one-sentence question. Perhaps a lot fewer questions would be asked if there were a better way to peruse similar ideas before asking.

Don't worry that someone may have already asked the same question, Kenneth. Sometimes our requests get lost in the void and we need to be reminded of them.
I added some tags, so we can get some more people interested.
Well not a permanent solution, I could probably do this fairly easily using an extension if you are interested.
@Steve, lets try...
I created a quick and dirty extension and it is currently pending in the Chrome Web Store. If anyone is interested, I can provide the unpacked extension for you try.

Chrome Extension is up if anyone wants to check it out.

Let me know if find any bugs or think of some improvements, it was a very quick and dirty code I through together.

Wholeheartedly agree with you, Kenneth!

I just want to add an example (of which I'm sure that most are familiar, but for those who aren't yet familiar) of how this is implemented on FamilySearch.

On a profile, wherever a profile ID code is given, clicking on it gives a pop-up button which, on clicking, automatically copies a profile ID to your computer's clipboard.

FamilySearch also introduced this feature a while back, and it's made life easier and processes smoother.

It might be helpful to many (at least those logged in) to have the profile ID displayed in text somewhere on the profile, plus a pop-up or mouse-over copy button, similar to what FamilySearch uses. Perhaps it could even be integrated into the profile preview feature

I also agree that we need this feature.

In my view, such a feature is the very definition of an improvement!
Thanks for this picture, it is exactly what I thought about when I saw the post.
Me too, but I usually forget to click on "copy id"  And have to redo everything.

I completely agree with this idea. This feature needs to be added to WikiTree.

It would also be good to have a small clipboard icon that would appear next to the name in various places, including the popups, so you don't have to visit the profile page.

I 'assume' that RJ means the 'preview' box for profiles, which would be a great place to have it be copied from.
