Dear Przemek , The problem about absent spouses and last two generations is back on your " Dynmic Tree by Topola". See my comment dated April 5, 2022 beiow. Please have a look at it. I use it often and find it very useful.

Thanks, I tried and it works well now. A very useful app, especially because it includes the profile photos in the tree

Hi, Przemek,

Congratulations for this great add "Dynamic Tree by Topola" you created. It's the best I've ever seen! I wish it would display Middle Names (Wikitree's specific field) as well I could choose what information (field) It would show for the persons on tree. A kind of check boxes where I could configure what would be shown or hidden, like photo, Wikitree ID, ...

Thank you.

Thank you Luis.

There is already a settings panel (top right, above person details). Right now there is only one setting that controls colors. The settings panel is waiting for more configuration options :-)

Hello, Przemek!

Thank you for Dynamic Tree by Topola. This is the only opportunity to see the whole tree at once, check for errors, and also visually demonstrate the connection with relatives.

Is it possible to add an option to output middle names?

Thank you Sergey.

I'll add this suggestion to my list. Feel free to also add an issue in GitHub's issue tracker here: https://github.com/PeWu/topola-viewer/issues

Hi, Przemek,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Dear Przemek, I really appreciate the app you created "Dynamic Tree by Topola". The family tree that appears together with photo's for the profiles is just marvelous. I have used it often. I haven now discovered that the few last generations on the tree diagram are incomplete. For instance, in my case (Geertsema-36), my wife does not appear after generating the view. Also some of my children appear, but more appear if I click around on my profile. The spouses of my children as well as my grandchildren, do not appear, although they are all linked to the profiles of me and my wife. I made sure that I am logged in. Am I missing something? It would be wonderful if you can help solve this for me.

Thanks Jan for using the tool. And thanks for the report. I can confirm that something odd is happening. I will investigate and try to fix it.

Hi Przemek,

First I would like to congratulate you on the Topola viewer, and thank you for so generously creating and sharing this very useful app/tool.

I have used it a bit now, and I have some suggestions, and a wish list, which you can adopt or ignore as you wish!

1/ On the initial page, if I click on the name box, I get a drop down list of names I have already entered, but if I click on one of them, it does not get registered in the box, so I have to type it in again. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if it worked as intended.

2/ I see you already have a pull down menus for alternative views, which currently just has two choices, the hourglass tree, and a fancy experimental tree. Can I suggest some further additions when you have the time/inclination.

a/ Ancestors only - this would effectively be the same as Wikitree's current Dynamic View

b/ Descendants only - this would be the same as Wikitree's descendants list/page, but laid out better/differently visually

c/ Total or full view - this is the view that Ancestry etc give you across the full range of cousins, siblings etc. With this, you would need to offer the choice of how many generations up and down to see, as some trees are very wide, and only a few generations would work well, and other trees are tall and narrow, so could go back a fair number of generations. So the ability to select the number of generations up or down would be very useful.

3/ Incorporate a "Trace link" option to another person (i.e. Wikitree ID) and to use a different line thickness or colour to highlight the route of connections between the two people. This is effectively what Wikitree's "Find Connection" does, but it could be better presented. It is also what the Spiderwebs does, but again that could be better presented by using the foundations from your app. Again you could offer a selection of a limit on the number of generations to search

4/ Add a feature that highlights the gender of the person, e.g by a red or blue box around their name, rather than the current black outline, or a different fill colour

5/ add a feature that highlights any recent additions to the tree, maybe by changing the fill colour or the outline colour or outline line width

6/ add the profile manager's wikitree ID, perhaps after the person's ID on the bottom line, especially if the gender symbol is replaced by a colour feature.

7/ Find something useful to do with all the blank space in the RH column that currently just has the link to the current profile, or reduce the size of the box. You could, for example, add in the first n lines of the biography. That would be interesting! Or make it a scrollable view of the bio!

I realise this is a big ask, but I think you wanted some feedback, so here it is. I think it is currently great, but could be stupendous! All the best. Alan

Thank you Alan for the kind words. And thank you for the list. I really like to see this kind of comments and suggestions. It helps me see what features are valuable and useful for others.

(1) I'm not sure what you mean by "initial page". Do you mean this page: https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/wiech13/ ? Or do you mean the page where the tree is displayed with the search box at the top?

(2) It is on my list to make the tree configurable. My idea is to add a "config" tab in the right panel with configuration options such as "how many generations to show", "what information to show" etc.

(3) This is a good idea but probably further out in the future.

(4) This is a common request and is quite high on my "to do" list.

(5) This is an interesting suggestion. This may become another configuration option.

(6) This could be added to the information panel on the right.

(7) Showing the biography in the info panel is an good idea. I'll see how difficult it is.

Hi Przemek,

Good to hear from you with such a positive response. Yes the "initial page" is the one you cited. When I click in the "Wikitree ID" box, a drop down list of all my previous searches appears, but when I click on one, it does not register or appear in the box, as one would expect.

Ref item 6, it would be better if you could get the PM's name or Wikitree ID into the profile box, as I suggested, so that we can see at a glance which are "our" profiles, and which managed by somebody else, and who that person is.

Keep up the good work!

Alan

Alan,

The dropdown behavior is dependent on the browser you are using. Anyway, this "initial page" was only meant to be a temporary way of loading the app. You can go from a WikiTree profile to the Topola app through the "Family Tree & Tools" tab or using the bookmarklet. I'm considering adding an option to navigate to an entered WikiTree ID inside the app itself.
