Ask Aleš is happening on first Wednesday of the month. Check here for the past interviews.
Slovenian Sources:
Aleš was born on 24 September 1969 in Ljubljana, Slovenia to Mišo and Jelka.
I got married on July 7 2004 in Santorini, Greece
Interest for genealogy started in 2015. I started with my tree in various programs and websites. Best one that I found was MyHeritage, but my tree quickly expanded beyond free hosting. So I continued my search and found the WikiTree. I registered on 29 Jun 2015 and transferred part of my tree to here,
Then I played with API and noticed, that I often forget to enter gender, locations,... So I wrote the program to search for errors on my tree. After I corrected all my mistakes, I asked myself if others are doing the same mistakes. So in april 2016 I asked for access to the database dump, and I couldn't believe, that others made even more mistakes than I did. So shortly after, I prepared the first error reports and Data Doctors project started.
In July 2016 I was asked to become the Leader and in September that year I also became the WikiTree Team Member. Since then a lot of things were done, mostly documented in G2G.
I regularly visit RootsTech since 2018 where I like meeting WikiTree members and discuss future development of WikiTree.
I manage counting and ranking on all Thons on WikiTree. I do participate in most thons on wikitree.
On ConnectAThon I work on WikiData Suggestions adding missing links on wikitree.

regarding your comment on Coxhead-303
you posted on the profile that it required a death notice. " Victorian BDM birth record number 11535/1918 " Is reference to the official death records for Victoria. Translated it means State of Victorian record number 11535 / for the year 1918. You will come across a lot of them on Wiki tree.

I can't update it at the moment, but I will asap. I checked and also link http://cweden.com/genealogy/cw/p3b82be7e.html works, so there is no need for the archive one.
I am having trouble getting anyone to respond about the May 2023 Connectors Monthly Challenge, so I am trying to see if you might know what is going on ... or get it started so we can start entering our tracker claims. Thanks.
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Calendar
The tracker is set up and running. https://plus.wikitree.com/Challenges/ConnectorsChallenge/20230501/User.htm
Other than that I wouldn't know.
So I have tried to do so, but it is still NOT showing up in the tracker. What can I do next in order to get the Connection tracker to record member entries ? Thanks
This Month's Participants (20230301) should be This Month's Participants (20230501)
Results are now in the score table.

Each time I enter a NZ Gov URL for a web site with official biographies for notable New Zealanders, I receive a Wikitree message/suggestion such as this one:
Link error various Help → 403 Forbidden https://teara.govt.nz/en/biographies/6c3/clay-marie-mildred
The URLs in the profiles Sources link with the site with no problems.
Why is this happening? Nga mihi nui

Working on the Poland Project and really appreciate these reports. However, the data date at the bottom says Jan 29, around 8 days ago. Is there anyway we could get the data updated quicker? Category Report. Daily would be fantastic, but even a couple of days would work. We would like to correct our errors as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Tina

The date at the bottom is not valid for all things but the number of profiles column depends on that date.

I am part of the Poland Project working with Skye Sonczalla. We were looking at the Category Report and it is very helpful, thank you. Is it possible to add columns for parallel languages or perhaps some other alternative, a different report? We are creating parallel categories for historical Prussia, now in modern Poland. We have three category pages linked, EN, PL and DE so a profile manager can easily find their town's category in the category widget. It will automatically place the profile in all three parallel categories regardless of which language is chosen. Ex. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Luba%C5%84%2C_Ko%C5%9Bcierzyna%2C_Pomeranian%2C_Poland. It would be very helpful to see in a report, which categories are missing a language parallel. For example, a town has a EN, PL missing a DE, or any combination of those. Then we could easily identify it and create the missing parallel. Thank you for your help, Tina

For all languages: https://www.softdata.si/wt/Cat/CatLang.htm and for pl: https://www.softdata.si/wt/Cat/CatLangpl.htm
It is not structured, but you can find missing categories there.
On Category navigation https://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTWebCategoryNavigate/Category.htm?category=Polska you can see the presence of aka template in the first column (text AKA)
Maybe I can program something to see the actual languages.
I made it possible to show AKA details in category navigator. Select AKA in Display details on a navigation page. https://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTCatNavigate/Category.htm?Category=Polska,_Powiaty&HideErrors=1&Details=AKA&Levels=3
There has been no usual G2G posting. I have asked about it in the May 2022 G2G posting and sent messages to the Connectors host and a Connectors leader ... but unfortunately nobody is replying. It is already the end of June 3 and wikitree members need to know if we should continue to make and record our connections. Otherwise I will work on other things. Thanks
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Calendar but there is no list of participants for this month. It seems it is now every 2nd month.
I really don't know. Connectors project should respond.

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team who guide new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. Please let us know which team(s) you would like to participate in.
For those of you who joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018, we would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you plan to join the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If you’re at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.
We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). You will find more information on the GoogleGroup.
We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:
We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.
Sincerely,
Debi Hoag and Robin Shaules Co-Leaders, Profile Improvement Project
Thank you for all the help you have given to the Profile Improvement Project over the years. We have removed your badge at your request. If you should ever wish to rejoin us, we would welcome you back.
Thank you.
I've been attempting to utilize "Find and Replace" tool in WikiTree Plus to update place locations, however I cannot seem to get this function to work. Example: Looking for profiles that list a certain place in the record, ie: "Bridgeport, CT," and then replace with "Bridgeport, Fairfield, Connecticut". When I press the "correct" button, nothing happens. I am wondering if the text of the replace field needs to include additional information, perhaps in order to align with the drop down location items in the profiles?
(I'm a new data doctor, so if there is a better way for feedback I apologize!)

When we go to sdms and check the profile for Turner-4916, it is NOT showing his wife's ancestors ... which it usually does. I made sure to check the box for ALL relatives (not just blood). Hope you can fix this as I use it alot to link up unconnected branches. Thanks
Trying to do this merge all one gets is a message someone else is doing the merge (The merge of Richard Bigge (Bigge-55) and Richard Bigg (Bigg-9) is already in progress by another user. ) and the system says "If it is not completed in five minutes, you can complete it " BUT no one is doing it I waited, waited. The two male Bigg, Bigge are att to Joanne Unknown https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-445987
My G2G of Sep 10 asking for tech help is waiting. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1298531/need-tech-help-on-merge-comments-on-richard-bigg?show=1298531#q1298531

You have NOTHING to be sorry for. You were a great part of the team and you rocked it in keeping everything going so we could do the cleaning anyway. You were busy, Every one you cleaned is another step in making the tree better. You are awesome! Thank you for all you do and have done for the tree.
Thanks for updating the SW94 templates. However the URL links in the citations are broken. Don't mind me if you were planning to correct them afterwards. If not, the new URLs can be found here for each URL ending with a different family name: https://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/node/55 For example: Broken URL : http://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/files/umcm-ceaac/wf/wf/pdf/37fam-Melanson.pdf New URL: https://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/files/umcm-ceaac/wf/wf/pdf/37fam-melanson.pdf
I can correct those that you have done today, there are not that many.
Since this source is used very often in Acadian profiles, and Université de Moncton often changes its URLs, wouldn't it be more practical to have a template, like the PRDH one?
edited by Gisèle Cormier
Now with the URL out of template it will generate a suggestion. You can correct the ones that I already did. For the others I will correct the link, now that I know how to correct it.
How often do they change the URL. It seems 50 of them are invalid. https://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTWebAll/Suggestions.htm?Query=www_umoncton_ca&MaxErrors=1000&ProfileSearch=1&ErrorID=965
In the suggestion list above, I corrected a few of them which were just formatting errors by WikiTree users. I can correct the rest if you want, or do you prefer to use Edit Bot?
BTW: I finished removing all SW94 usages and deleted all SW94 templates.
Both parameters say "it is the first number in the URL."

Aleš
You can also change the headings from "This month" to something else. Just the "Participants (20210201)" is important and should be as it is.
Is there any way to run a text search and then download the resulting table? I was running this search, and would like to download the table into excel. The .csv and tab delimited didn't get me what I needed. https://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=5stars%2BPuritan+Great+Migration&MaxProfiles=500&SortOrder=LNAB&PageSize=500
On a related note, is there a way to show in the above list those profiles that have ONLY WikiTree-30 as a Profile Manager?
Thank you.

At the moment we are developing dedicated export to xlsx format, that will be even better. We will be able to explicitly format the cells.
I just tried it again the way you recommended, and when it came into Excel (also using Chrome on Windows 10), it had the semicolon delimiters in it still. Did you have to do something different to convert it into columns of data?
If you got all text in column A, you can use Column to Cells option in excel. It is in Data menu. Another thing you can try is to start excel and then open the downloaded file. there are a few csv/tsv formats available. it might even ask for delimiter. Another way is to use Tab separated format, open the file in Notepad, Select all text and copy to clipboard that can be directly pasted to excel.

Hoping you can make the icon reappear, so I know to enter it for the monthly Connectors Challenges. Thanks
It is probably also a duplicate of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Grissom-462 Both are married to the same wife.
I have been seeing a bunch of pre1700 profiles without sources, so I would like to make a suggestion for you to consider. Could another occasional weekly Data Doctor Challenge be added to find sources specifically for unsourced pre1700 profiles ?
I think wikitree volunteer sourcerers are busy and it wouldn't hurt to add some extra attention to pre1700 profiles by occasional Data Doctors.
If it provides successful results, perhaps we could later even extend it to unsourced pre1800 profiles also.
Wishing you happy holidays in 2020 :)

And down the page, you have Descendants=Tudor-18 which queries his descendants. And you can add Notables to the query. Something like this. https://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=Descendants%3DTudor-18+Notables&MaxProfiles=500&SortOrder=Default&PageSize=10
Also it looks like you have made a change to the database. And so many time today, I have lost ALL the work I did and had to go back to the beginning and duplicate all the work I had previously done. This is because I keep a profile open in the edit mode when I am doing some research and it looks like the new update doesn't like length of time. Even worse, it loses all the work I spent so much time on.
I did not have these problems before today. I could keep a profile open as long as I wanted and also if a bad token came up, it would refresh with ALL my previous work still there so I could save my edit.
I hope that you can reistate longer profile edit times and the system not losing the edit work I have done before saving it.
Another change that is giving me some difficulty is that the profile number is no longer in the web address. I always used that for the Acknowledgements section and to refer to other profiles.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide.
I think most of the things about the update will be resolved in a day or two. There is a G2G to report the problems.
You are welcome.
I need to search and replace a book reference in all my profiles. Under "= sources =" I need to replace a reference to a book which resides on the googledrive. The text looks like this: Sources The Samii Clan Book By Mohamad Bagher Adibsamii <div dir="rtl"> کتاب شجره نامه خاندان سمیعی به کوشش محمد باقر ادیب سمیعی </div>
I appreciate the help Regards
It is used on 3118 profiles. I can provide you a list of all profiles using it.
I am not sure if EditBOT can handle nonlatin alphabets. I would have to try.
Since google drive is not a static thing, I would suggest that you create a Space page on wikitree and link to it from all profiles.
There you can have a link to google drive and change it if needed also in the future with a single action. Google can change the link in the future again.
Since I haven-t seen the book, I am guessing, but maybe you can upload the images or PDF of the book on wikitree and you will not be dependent on google at all.
Let me know what you decided and I will try EditBOT on those profiles. I can reformat the complete link to point to a space page.
Aleš
Thank you!
