Yes - go to the parish records and read the entire Parish records - notes written in margins. He uses the wording "bastard" and that Ellens, first child born and named John Simpson, after his father - may NOT used the surname Simpson. This child born was 1801, died in Oct 1802.

Hi Kathryn, thanks for the things you are sorting out, I dont even know who these people are, I think someone else has put stuff on - cause I didnt lol - anyway glad you getting under control. thank you lots and lots
Hi Kathryn, I see you have edited some details on John Norton. I think you may have the wrong profile? He was not born in Dublin, but Birmingham. May I please change back?
We both want this record correct - I took my information from his Fencible records, and his age at death. His death date had previous been wrong. If he was born in 1801, it would have made him twenty YOUNGER than his first wife, and a great deal younger when he died. (aged 56?)
Something is wrong... what other facts do you have? Kathryn
I am looking for photos of My grandfather's Thomas Stephen Richard Fletcher brother. William (Bill) Fletcher and sister Eva . Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏. Hope you are well. Gayle.
Hi Kathryn. Regarding William Gibbons Harp (1852-1939), there is no source for the 24 January/June birth date, as stated in the Research Notes. It's written on Find A Grave, but that only cites a newspaper obituary which does not mention his birth date.
I'm not Kathryn (I'm one of her cousins, who happened to see this message by chance), but I took a look at William's profile. If you search NZ's Historical BDM website, and specify the birth date for between 23/01/1852 and 25/01/1852, you're given the birth registration of Harp, William Gibbons to mother Lucy and father James. It's a good trick for if you want to determine the date on a birth record without ordering the certificate.
As I said, if you narrow the search field so it only searches from 23/01/1852 to 25/01/1852, it would not show the birth registration record unless the date was on the birth certificate in that time period.
I noticed your entries for Edward Thomas Francis Forn b.1856. There are some mistakes. Contact me please on [email address removed] I'm interested in your connection to the Forne family also. Thanks, Kay
I recently found a small trove of family photos which belong mostly to my grandmother's side of the family (Venice Fletcher, that is), mostly in regards to her Hill side and not Fletcher. However, given that you've done some research, I thought I'd come to you.
Amongst these items I found a birthday card addressed to her for her fourth birthday, signed by Superintendant M. Potter, of the Grand Orange Lodge. With a bit of online sleuthing, I've found that this most likely refers to the Orange Lodge of New Zealand, the NZ branch of the Orange Order, an Irish Protestant fraternity from Northern Ireland with branches throughout the world and Commonwealth. It makes sense to me that my research is accurate, given that my grandmother's maternal grandmother Matilda Daisley was from Dromore in Tyrone, in what is now (yet wasn't then) Northern Ireland, however given that its a fraternal society it's most likely that her father, Thomas Stephen Richard Fletcher, was a member. If not, it would be her maternal grandfather Alfred Hill (Matilda's husband who, strangely enough, was English). In order to narrow down which is more likely, I was curious whether you've come across any references to any of this among your own research of the Fletchers, possibly (and this is a very wild theory) some sort of Kilgour connection?
I hope you're staying happy and healthy over this Easter and this lockdown period,
Amy :-)
As a side note, the fact that we matched and we know which ancestors we matched through means that you are able to confirm your paternal relationships as well!
As you've probably noticed, I've gotten my DNA tested and congratulations! We're confirmed cousins now :) Due to WikiTree protocol, in order to mark my ancestral relationships as confirmed I need to add source citations, so please do not be too concerned when you see edits being made to the Fletcher/Kilgour profiles. I promise I have not damaged any of them!
Kathryn, thank you for each of your more than 1000 contributions to our Shared Tree for the month of August 2019. All of your work makes our Tree all that much better.
Hi Kathryn! I'm not sure whether you know, but I have just started a Kilgour Name Study and, as a prominent researcher of the family, I thought that you might be interested :)
I am very pleased that you have taken such an interest in my G.Great Grandfather Edward Roe. Edward and Amelia (nee, Lawrance) Roe came out to New Zealand on the HMS Gertrude with their seven children . They left Gravesend London in June 1841 and sailed into Port Nicolson on the 3rd of November1841 Edward was 39 years old and Amelia was 37 years. Edward's age at their marriage was 19 years and Amelia was between 17 and 18 years.
His age recorded on the shipping list was recorded at 39 yrs and hers 37yrs ... so therefore Edwards birth date is 1801-2 and Amelia about 1803-4
Thank you Kathryn for the wonderful work you have done and continue to do. I found wikitree last year but like you have been collecting info for a long time. I still work full time though so my time is limited but am slowly adding my sourced information as I can.
Hi Kathryn, thanks for fixing my errors on William Pilkington Yates. I had gone by the approximate date of birth given on FindAGrave, which was silly of me as the other sources I added clearly indicated he was much older. I should have been paying more attention.
I have cleaned up his page and removed the incorrect info and sources I added and integrated the extra info.
I'm just wondering whether you've done any research into the potential father of John Simpson College, John Simpson?
Regards, Amelia
