Grew up in a small town in Central New York.

Attended elementary school in the same building where her father graduated from high school. All paternal great great grandparents lived with 20 miles of this town by 1820.

She was a member of the Women's Varsity Basketball team in college. Tara VanDerveer, also on that team, went on to hold the most wins of any Division I basketball coach, men or women.

She earned a degree in geography. Had a career as a software engineer including early work in geospatial technology and later in database applications and web services. Holds an Amateur Radio license.

Enjoys RV travel, genealogy, sports, reading, cooking, sewing, gardening and solving puzzles.
