Biography

Gertrude Christine Nelson was born on 23 May 1891 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. ^[1] Her parents were Lewis Danielson Nelson and Mathilda Johnson. ^[1]

She appeared in the 1900 US Census at 443 West 106 Street in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. ^[2] She was living with her parents and her siblings Ruth, Daniel, Lewie, Frans, and Philip. ^[2]

She married William H. Graper on 1 February 1913 in Chicago. ^[3] They had one daughter:

1. Viola Marcy Wilmette b. 1915 ^[4]

She died on 14 July 1917 in Chicago. ^[5] She was buried on 17 July 1917 at Mount Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago. ^{[5] [6]}

Her obituary in the 17 July 1917 edition of the Chicago Examiner reads ^[7]:

GRAPER - July 14, 1917, Gertrude D. (nee Nelson), beloved wife of William H. Graper, fond mother of Viola Graper, daughter of Mrs. Matilda Nelson, sister of Daniel Nelson, Mrs. Ruth Thompson, Raymond, Franz and Philip Nelson. Funeral from her late residence, 6622 Bishop st., Tuesday, at 2 p.m.; interment at Mount Greenwood.
