Charles Jones is/was a significant British Columbian.

Charles E. Jones served as the 26th mayor of Vancouver, British Columbia from August 1947 until September 1948.
Family
Charles, son of James Jones and Sarah Jane Preston, was born in Whitby, Cheshire, England[1] on 19 Jan 1881.[2] Charles's birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1881 in the Wirral district and his mother's maiden name was: Preston.[3] He was the 7th of 9 children born to James and Sarah Jane Jones.
Their family lived on Chester Road in Whitby, Cheshire.[4][5] In 1901, Charles (20) was working as a butcher.[6]
He arrived in Canada in 1905.[7] Charles (age 31) married Emma Collyer (age 26) on 22 February 1912 in Vancouver, British Columbia.[1] They had three children, all still born.[8][9][10]
In 1921, Charles (40), Emma (34) and Charles' brother, Samuel (37) were living at 1929 Napier St. in Vancouver, British Columbia.[7]
Career
Jones became Vancouver’s mayor after Mayor Gerry McGeer passed away midway through his term in office in August 1947. Jones was proclaimed the city's mayor for the remainder of McGeer's term, then won re-election for 1948. However, Jones himself would die during his mayoral term. George Clark Miller would function as mayor for the remainder of Jones' term.
Death
Charles died in Vancouver, British Columbia on 1 Sep 1948.[2] He was buried in Vancouver's Mountain View Cemetery.[11]
