Ike and Nora were devoted workers in the Cottonwood Community Church, where he served as a Trustee and she was many times the pianist. Later, they were faithful members of the Methodist Church. Nora was a long-time member of the Women's Extension club and a Women's Church Group. Ike served many years on the Cottonwood School Board and was widely known for his prize watermelons. [3]
Ike and the family came to New Mexico because of lung damage he encountered as a result of the influenza epidemic of 1918 (which claimed 2 brothers, Henry and Isham, and a brother-in-law, Ernest Frink (sister Lydia's husband).) The doctor's comment at the last, "He got more miles out of those lungs than I ever thought possible." [3]
