Born as Karen Patrice Harris in Biloxi, Mississippi at Keesler Air Force Base on 22 August 1955, she was the youngest daughter of William Henry Harris and Geraldine Honeycutt Harris, and was the 3rd of 4 children.[1] [2] Being a military family they never stayed in one location more than just a few years, Karen made her 1st move at only 5 weeks old. Her residences following Biloxi were - Minneapolis St Paul, Minnesota; Palo Alto, California; West Acton, Massachusetts; Rome, New York. Her father retired from the Air Force while they were living in New York, moving the family to Virginia Beach, Virginia; then to Monroe, Louisiana where Karen graduated in 1973 from Neville High School [1]
After High School Karen attended High Point College (Now University) in High Point North, Carolina where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and where she met her future husband Dennis Wall. Graduating in May of 1977, Karen received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resources and Sociology. [1]
It was during my Freshman year at High Point College that I was introduced to Genealogy. Taking a short Winter class, I thought it would be easy credits. Who knew I'd catch a life-long bug. Over the next many years I pursued the interviews and letter writing tasks required for pre-computer collecting of data. Eventually moving everything to computer, the researching processes changed, but did not change the passion. I was 30+ years into my research, before I learned about documenting sources. It will probably take another 30 before that issue is resolved.[3]
Dennis and Karen were married on 22 October 1977 in the Post Chapel at Fort Benning, Georgia [4] in a Military Ceremony held the weekend after Dennis received his commission in the US Army. [1]. They spent their first 2 days as Mister and Misses in the Bachelors Officers Quarters, not quite the luxury honeymoon one would anticipate as it was not designed for couples. It would be about 3 years before their travels would land them in Paris, France. At that time, Dennis found a handful of rice in his coat pocket, and therefore the couple declared Paris their 2nd Honeymoon. [1]
After marriage, the next 30 years took them to El Paso, Texas (outside Fort Bliss); Delmenhorst, Germany; Enterprise, Alabama (outside Fort Rucker); Clarksville, Tennessee (outside Fort Campbell, Kentucky) where both sons were born; back to Enterprise, Alabama; Yongsan Air Base, Seoul, South Korea; and then finally to Marietta, Georgia. [1]
Over the years Karen held a variety of part-time jobs, finally stumbling upon a job in Insurance where she worked for 18 years before retiring at age 65 from full-time work. After leaving Insurance, Karen continued to work part-time in her sons' business, while keeping busy with Grandchildren and Genealogy. [1]
This Bio is a work in progress. If you are reading this, please be patient with any errors as I learn how to format, and how best to present a Biography. Harris-13251 21:46, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to the NEWTS team. Look for an email from me shortly. Great to see you last night!
As you can see I prefer the biography style profiles rather than all the subtitles. It is just a choice - many people use the subtitles. If you have questions, please ask - I am happy to help.

We merged the duplicate account for you. You may need to edit the "Genealogist" section of this profile in order to have the Guest badge disappear.

Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information."
A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.
How Do You Find Sources? offers links to free sources (and a few for subscription). If you can't find a source, try asking about it at the G2G Forum.
The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.
And I'm here to help too, just ask!

What happens after a merge? After the merge is completed you'll be redirect to the edit page for the profile. It's important to edit the biography and sources. During a merge, the text from the merged-away profile is simply appended onto the end of the text of the merged-into profile. You will want to integrate it into a single biography and a single sources section.
Will post comment on sources next as limited in the comment box as to how much i can enter.
Thank you, David Wiki Mentor
Thank you for the message and questions!
I noticed you have not cleaned up your profile after a merge. Please review our Matching and Merging FAQ to understand your responsibilities in doing merges. During a merge, the text from the merged-away profile is appended to the end of the text of the merged-into profile. After a merge, you will need to clean up the text by removing duplicate information and consolidating what is left leaving the profile with a single Biography section and a single Sources section.
Once I create the citation on Lillie Mae for the Marriage Certificate, would that then also appear as a source citation on the page for her spouse John Thrift? No, you have to add the source to each profile it is relevant for. It is not done automatically for you.
I will send you a personal e mail answering your other questions as we are limited in the comment box as to ho much we can post.

I'm replying to your GEDCOM question here. The answer is that I'm clueless! I've never imported a GEDCOM into WikiTree, so I don't know what the process is like.
Eowyn Langholf is the GEDCOM fairy queen of WikiTree. If the stuff I'm pasting below doesn't work, try asking her.
Carole
Here are step-by-step instructions.
The help pages give lots of information about the process. Start here: 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.

Please set your preferences for your Tags Followed to include DNA on the GenealogistToGenealogist (G2G) feed: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following
If you are adding any DNA tests to profiles on WikiTree, please be sure to add the tests to the actual test participant's profile (not your own profile), and that the Privacy is set to show the participant's Family Tree tab.

Please add as much information as you can. If you don't know the birth or death please estimate. Adding good sources is also important. Here is a link to a video a fellow wikitreer made to help get you started. Video
