Thomas Cade was mentioned in the first three pages of the Hardy County records (1786), and in 1791, he received a warrant for land on Licking Creek in Randolph County.
Thomas Cade married the widow of Daniel Cameron, who was killed by Indians in 1781 below Philippi, leaving his widow with a one-year old daughter Catherine and pregnant with a second daughter, Elizabeth, born five months after her father's death.
In 1798, Thomas Cade was appointed constable.
Thomas Cade and William Anglin were both charged with failure to vote in May, 1803.
Thomas Cade and Major Cade are thought by some to have been brothers, although apparently no source document has been discovered to confirm this. Because there were so few Cades in the area -- perhaps Major and Thomas were the only two at one point -- and because they were in the same age range, it does seem likely, though not certain, that they were brothers.
