John Madison Brown was born on December 10, 1883 in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, United States, son of John Benjamin Brown (1861–1935) and Margaret Adeline Hawn (1866–1933).
John was the second child and first born son of 18 children born to John and Margaret.[1][2]
On June 12, 1900 John was 16, living with his parents in Monroe, Benton County, Oregon.[3]
On May 7, 1910 John was 27 single living with his parents and siblings on Paterson Road, Springfield, Lane County, Oregon[4]
John registered for the draft for World War I. He was described as medium height and build, brown eyes and hair, no physical handicaps [5]
On January 28, 1920, John was on Cal Young Road, Willakenzie Precinct, Lane County, Oregon. He was 35, single, listed as a hired man, working on the farm of Clarence and Nellie Sutton.[6]
On April 4, 1930 John was 46, still single, renting for $6 a month a house on West llth Street, Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. He was listed as a laborer doing odd jobs and was not a veteran.[7]
John registered for the draft for World War II, living at 236 1/2 West 11th Street in Eugene, Oregon. He listed his brother, Wallace as the person who would always know where he lived and he was employed by Stein Brothers on 10th and Willamette. He was described as 5'8", 165 pounds, brown eyes and hair, ruddy complexion with 3 toes off his right foot.[8]
John died on November 20, 1949 in Lane, Oregon, aged 65. He is commemorated at West Lawn Memorial Park, Eugene, Lane County, Oregon.[9]

Cannot find John in the 1940 census, but he was registered for the civilian draft in 1942.
