No, Patrick, I didn't get the email.  I have basic access through Ancestry to Newspapers.com but I'm in Canada and I guess they didn't think there's enough of us up north to bother with.  Thanks for the info, even if it doesn't help me.

The free weekend in the U.S. is in celebration of Washington's Birthday national holiday.  Now if your fellow countrymen would like to accept an old invitation, you too could have a free weekend:  When Canada was invited to join the United States

Well, thank you, Kerry, my 23rd cousin.  According to a SAR application by Charles Haviland McKeel in 1901, George Washington and his staff were entertained in the Yorktown home of Michael MeKeel, http://WikiTree.com/wiki/Michelsen-657, who was my 5th great grandfather.  You'd think Newspapers.com would take this information into consideration, in honor of George's birthday, in honor of freedom (from paying) and make an exception for this Canadian.

Well that does seem like a real oversight on Newspapers.com part!  You're practically a DAR candidate.  I'll bet if you contacted them and complained about this unfairness, they'd offer you 7-days for free, no questions asked.  Oh, wait...

All kidding aside, Kerry, there was a woman who contacted me, wanting to help me apply for DAR.  I had to explain that my line goes to Michael MeKeel's Loyalist daughter so that's a non-starter.  Divided family.
