Biography

Husband John Preston Roper was a Veteran in World War II -R.CN.V.R. John was in sales and was owner of Preston’s Texaco. He and Trudy resided in Moncton, New Brunswick. John Preston Roper and Gertrude L. Williams are buried at Sherwood Cemetery, Charlottetown, PEI. John was 86 years old when he died and Trudy was 85 years old when she died at Moncton Hospital. They were members of Central United Church. They had three sons.

In the 1931 census Gertrude (age 8), Student, was the daughter of Bert[sic] Williams in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Mother's middle name is Alberta and nickname was Bertie. Believe husband named as Bert was a transposition error on the part of the enumerator^[1]

Obituary

Gertrude (Trudy) L. Roper, 85, of Moncton, with her loving family by her side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Born in Sydney, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Lou and Bertie (Sears) Williams. Trudy was former personal manager with Kmart, Mountain Road, and retired from City Rentals (1994) Moncton. She was a member of Central United Church and in past years enjoyed swimming, curling, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Trudy will be sadly missed by her sons, Bruce (Peggy), Point La Nim; Frank (Sandra), Shediac; David, Toronto, ON; grandchildren, Jenny, Caleb (Robyn), Craig (Bryna) and Lesley; great-grandchildren, Torin, Kloe, Tristen and Keira; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, predeceased by her husband J. Preston Roper (October 2008), brother, George; sister, Jennie. Visitation, Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton, (858-1995) Tuesday 2-4 p.m., 7-9 p.m. Funeral service, Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday January 7, 2009, 1:30 p.m. Rev. Harold MacDonald officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Sherwood Cemetery, Brackley, P.E.I. In Trudy’s memory, donations to Friends of the Moncton Hospital or the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick would be appreciated. ^[4]
