William was born about 1840 in County Londonderry, Ireland. [1]
His wife was Elizabeth Woods. He was referred to as a "weaver" in the marriage records of his children; although was a farmer in the censuses.
They lived at Ballymaguigan, Artrea for a time; although had moved to Ballynasollus, Kildress, County Tyrone by 1901. In fact daughter Mary Anne resided at Ballynasollus as of 1898.
He passed away suddenly on 2 September 1907 "age 68" at his residence in Beltonanean, Kildress; and was interred in Clare Churchyard. [2] [3]
No marriage record found yet; but birth records matching known children exist to William Smith/Smyth and Elizabeth Woods.
The surname seems randomly to be either Smith or Smyth for William and his children on various civil records. "Smyth" is much more common in the Mid-Ulster Mail though.
Not the same as William Smyth of Dysart, Ballynascreen (d. 10 Mar 1908) -- although that William is the cousin of Isabella (Loughlin) Glasgow (abt.1823-1894) , a surname we do see in association with this Smith family.
