Biography

Horace Hudson Smith Jr was born on 11 May 1907 in Nashville, Tennessee, to parents Anna Walker Webb and Horace Hudson Smith.^[1]

In the 1910 census he was three years old, living with his parents and two older sisters, Isadore and Mollie, at 605 Russell Street in Nashville.^[2]

His family home burned down on 22 March 1916 in the East Nashville Fire and soon afterward, he was sent away to boarding school at Massey Military Academy in Pulaski, Tennessee, where he graduated in 1923. This was a traumatic time in his life.^[3]

In the 1920 census, he was listed with his family in Nashville.^[4]

In the 1930 census, he was living in Chicago as a lodger and working as a clerk for Cudahy Packing Company.^[5]

Horace met and fell in love with Lenore Marie Manning in 1935, and they married on 1 May 1937 at Our Lady of St Ignatius Church in Chicago.^[3][6]

In the 1940 census, Horace and Lenore were living in Chicago with their two-year-old son. Horace was working as a sales manager for Cudahy Packing Company.^[7]

In the 1950 census, Horace and Lenore were living in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, with their son and daughter. Horace was working as a sales manager for Cudahy Packing Company.^[8]

Horace Hudson Smith died on 28 January 1989 in Memphis and was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery.^[9]
