Welcome to The Great War Project (1914-1918) A Sub-Project of the Military and War Project

Mission

This project is to memorialize and trace the legacy and heritage of those who participated in the Great War, also known as World War I. It includes the men and women from all countries who served in the Great War. We want to find or create those profiles on WikiTree and follow their legacies, with the purpose of connecting to the Global Family.

Goals

Find or create profiles
All duplicates merged into lowest number
Project Managed or PPP added if it qualifies, add the project box {{The Great War Project}} and assign the project profile as the PM
pertaining categories added, use the sticker {{The Great War}}
biography cleaned up and written, using the WikiTree Style Guide (can work with Profile Improvement Project for help)
Attached family meets these goals, too
Attached to the main WikiTree family tree (ask the GFR for help)
Regular submissions to Profile of the Week

Those that are POW, MIA, KIA, WIA and those that died in the war can also go under the appropriateRoll of Honor. Along with others who received recognition. In this way we are not duplicating what has already been established but adding to it. An individual can be added to more than one project.

If we can find the burial information they can also be added to existing categories for the Cemeterist Project

To-Do or Task List

I have created a freespace page to start finding or creating profiles. Pennsylvanians of The Great War, using US Casualties of WWI, Pennsylvania-Wyoming. This resource does not give dates so it takes a little research to get the information. These are extremely large list so I add alphabetically and then find or create the profile. As the profile is created I add the link to the profile so it is not duplicated.

I think for the United States a freespace page similar for each state will help us all. The same too as to the country, providence, etc, you want to work on. If we add about 50 to the list at a time we can complete the profiles.

Add family members to connect to the Global Family. Flesh out the bios and then add more to the list.

The Project Box should be applied only when The Great War Project is a manager of the profile. Please contact project leaders for information.

Sticker

Most individual profiles under the purview of the project will have the sticker applied.

The World War I sticker will add the profile to a category by using the |unit=, |branch= and ", World War I".

Explanations:
{{The Great War Do not change this.
|branch= Here you add service branch or country that can be found at the bottom of the sticker page. If the service branch or country you want to use is not listed, please contact the leaders of the project so we can add it to the list.
|startdate=Service start date as dd mmm yyyy.
|units=Here you can list the main units he/she served in separated by ; (semi colons). Please do not use abbreviations.
|enddate=Service end date as dd mmm yyyy
|rank=Enter the rank (Ex. Sergeant) here.
|unit=This will add the profile to the appropriate unit category. Please do not use abbreviations and no unit smaller than Regiment/Brigade. If Regiment or Brigade is not known, use a higher unit that you do know.
|image=Here you can change the default flag image to an alternative image.

If the category the sticker creates turns out red check the spelling/punctuation and the parent category to see if it is spelled the same way. If all looks correct, you can create the new category,}} The naming scheme is [[Category:Unit Name, Branch, World War I]]

Whenever in doubt, please contact the leaders of the project or the leaders of Military and War Project

Remember to enter the Country and Branch of Service as found at the bottom of the sticker page ie; Royal Navy, French Foreign Legion, Australian Army, United States Marine Corps etc and it will display the correct country flag and add the profile to the <category>, World War I.
