Note Daniel, Mary and Lydia in notes from GEDCOM family data
Daniel Allen Married Mary Smith, daughter of George and Margaret Smith of Mendon, Mass. Mary was born October 6, 1764. Daniel and Mary lived in Smithfield, Rhode island, from about 1781 to 1791. In March of 1791,Daniel and his wife Mary moved with their children, Susannah, Amaziah, Lydia, Mary, and Ebenezer, to a 200 acre farm at North Adams, Mass. This information is from the East Hoosic Friends Meeting Records. Daniels brothers, Ebenezer and Amaziah, also moved to the East Hoosic meeting from Sandwich, Mass. Thus began the migration of the Allen Family of Sandwich, Barnstable Co., Mass.
Daniel's wife Mary died in East Adams on March 10, 1793. Daniel married Lydia Smith, sister of his first wife, in 1794. For marrying his first wife's sister, Daniel was denied membership in the Quaker Meeting. The minutes of the Monthly Meeting of the East Hoosic Friends, held May 5,1795, disowned him for being a member of the society "until he from a sense of his own error shall make satisfaction to this meeting". Family legend is that Daniel became a "shed member", bringing his wife and family to meeting and waiting in the horse shed during services. Lydia apparently confessed to be sorry and was allowed to remain a member of the meeting.
