Jonathan Allen was of Manchester. Given the many, many Pierce families early of Manchester [and Beverly or Marblehead], I am hoping to learn if there is any historical evidence that his wife, Mary Pierce, was the daughter by that name born to Daniel Pierce Jr. (1638-1704) of Newbury and his wife, Elizabeth Milward.--GeneJ
Edited to add. Jonathan and Mary had 12 children--there is not a Daniel or Elizabeth among them.
A list of his children's names is given by Sidney Perley, ed., "Allen Genealogy" in The Essex Antiquarian, 2 (1898):135-140, 161-165, 176-181, at 137 (19. Jonathan Allen^3); digital images, HathiTrust.
Recorded 1738 Sept 27, Jonathan et ux. > William Lunt, 77:104/Newbury?; Deeds, v. 77-78 1738-1739; 866047 7463290, image 108-109 of 586. Jonathan Allen of Manchester, housewright and Priscilla Lunt alias Allen, wife of Jona Allen on the one part & William Lunt of Newbury .. of ye other part; quitt claim; "Real Estate of Our Hon'd Father Mr. Henry Lunt the Third late of Newbury Dec'd." Deed dated 3 October 1737.
Without naming them, Raymond Frederick Allen reported Jonathan and Mary were the parents of twelve (12) children.
See Raymond Frederick Allen, The Allens; from William Allen (1602-1679) of Manchester, England, and of Salem and Manchester, Massachusetts ... (Walton, N. Y.: Printed by the Reporter Co., 1958), 20-23 (Samuel Allen, b. 1632); digital images, Hathi Trust.
Since he was born and died at Manchester, suspect those children were born there.
He left a will, which might call out his surviving children. See Jonathan Allen 1768 probate, case #457 (4 pp.), Essex County, MA: Probate File Papers, 1638-1881; database and digital images by subscription, AmericanAncestors.
Edited to add: Is there a source supporting the FindAGrave notion that he was buried in the Old Burial Ground at Manchester? There is no tombstone image. Do actual cemetery records exist, or was an early record made of the stones?
I can't find any record that would imply that Jonathan had the title of Captain. His probate record refers to Jonathan as "Husbandman", but no reference to Captain. I have attached the Probate document cite in the sources section.
