Crawford of Kilbirnie, Scotland to Ireland

In the newspaper obituary for Crawford-25486's son, it records that his father -- who lived in the north of Ireland -- was descended from famous Crawfords of Kilbirnie , Ayrshire, Scotland. It also references a legal battle that supposedly went on for 38 years between the Ireland Crawfords and the Kilbirnie Crawfords.

Are there any resources that document this emigration and might help with connecting this profile to his claimed ancestors ?

You might find helpful information at Scots In Ulster dBase, which includes several Crawford weavers in Londonderry in 1796, and Hugh in Lissan. Many others are listed. Be sure to click on the "?" to find out about the records and possible other sources to check.

If you can find a Y-DNA descendant to take a test, it can help to determine at least the haplogroup in which William and his family should be placed. That could theoretically tell you whether it is possible that he is descended from the Kilbirnie branch.

I agree, yDNA testing in conjunction with the names of those who first arrived, "Scots Settlers," in the dBase I sent would be of great help. I would recommend a minimal level of 37 markers, as anything less is not very significant. The higher the level the better the results. FTDNA often has sales and they have a specific project for Scottish yDNA with very helpful and knowledgeable folks. There are 404 members with the surname Crawford.

They should check with the Crawford DNA project if you find someone, they can get a discount, and if they are expected to be in a branch the study is particularly interested in,  then it might be fully funded
wonderful!
