How to find older relatives?

Hello all.

After doing DNA tests I was recommended this website to figure out how I am related to King Ladislaus I of Hungary and Croatia and Gleb Svyatoslavich Prince of Novgorod, Based on MyTrueAncestry, We have a deep dive match so we are 100% some how related but I really dont know how to check how.

I have Ukrainian and Russian Roots based on my family tree research. With Ukrainian side up to 1750's and Russian side only up to 1850's....

Any helps and tips will be appreciated.

Welcome aboard, Yaroslav!

It's going to take time and research to establish this connection. Continue to add to your family branches with biographical information and sources. Eventually you will connect with existing profiles. If you need any tips on this, please ask!

Once you get to people born before 1700, you will need to complete the pre-1700 quiz and collaborate with the relevant project. The project list can be found under the Find drop down menu. Working with a project is a good way to learn more and collaborate with other members.

Come back here to the forum if you have any questions along the way.

Good luck with your research and enjoy your journey into the past!

The problem is that Ukrainian archives do not go before 1700's. I was only able to find 1730 as the earliest.

With Russian side of the family. No archive is Available.

So I am really lost.
If you edit this post and add country tags plus the pre-1700 tag you will get the attention of members with experience in those areas.

Hi Yaroslav, your main question was about how to find "older relatives." Do you mean your own grandparents and their generation, and further back? I was told when I first began -- begin at home. Talk to your family, and perhaps interview them. And then find the documentation to back up what they have told you. As you find more, show them, and ask more questions! You may find relatives you have never heard of, and they may tell you even more! "MyTrueAncestry" will not be much help. The typical DNA tests which offer matching and other DNA data will be far more useful to you, especially as you use it on Wikitree!

further back from the 1850's on my mothers side and 1730's from my fathers side.

No more documents are available and i already know many relatives but no one from back in the 1800's apart from great grandparents and their sibilings
Well, many of the rest of us are there too. I'm aware that DNA is not nearly as popular in Europe as it is here, yet many of us are using DNA to solve mysteries far in the past. It takes time, patience, work and money to pay for other people's testing.

Best,

Valorie
