Research Notes

Birth
Lots of people have his father as James Yule, this is not correct. James died in 1860, Robert and 2 of his brothers were born after this. All three of the brothers born after James Death have illegitimate on their birth certificates as well as an entry attached to one that states the children were incorrectly named Yule and should have been Lang as illegitimate. Marriage
On the marriage certificate his spouse is named Jane Smith, however her name was Helen Drysdale. This is definitely their marriage record though as the father and mothers first names are correct as well as the mothers maiden name. In a newspaper article about their 50th Wedding Anniversary it also says they were married in Glasgow on this date. The name on shipping records to Australia for Helen is also Jane Smith, but this ship is named in the same article as the ship they arrived on. My only guess at why is she was only 15yrs old at the time of the marriage, so they lied about her name to avoid getting parental permission? Patroni-12 12:10, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
