Hi Alison,

We all did a great job this weekend, thank you. We hope you had fun. The total for the event was 98,937 profiles added to the tree. The Mighty Oaks contributed 8,1442 of those. Thank you for working with us and congratulations on your score.

If you open up your contribution or tracker list you can review your work and possibly do some tidying up, on the profiles.

Thanks again for this weekend, you rock, appreciate your input and support for the team.

Thank you for the work you are doing on Weares who are directly related to me. Also for the work on Dix which is my maternal side. I didn't think I was related to William Chatterton Dix, the hymn writer, but turns out I am. Thank you. Karen

Thank you for your message Steve, I've only been the leader of the Gloucestershire team for a short while and for most of that Bristol and Gloucestershire statistics have been in the process of being sorted out. Now we have some meaningful stats I hope that, along with my team, we can continue improving the County's profiles and it will show up on the charts.

During my few short weeks I've worried a bit that having statistics weekly is quite a challenge, with relatively few profiles able to be improved in that short time. Would it be OK if I posted them monthly on our page? I do like to use them to motivate not just me but the whole team. Also, any extra stats (eg if we were the 6th best County for unsourced profiles) are also really good. I want to help make Gloucestershire one of the best Counties (and Bristol one of the best places) on Wikitree but it's a big place!

I really enjoy Wikitree and equally enjoy looking after Gloucestershire and Bristol. Thank you and your team for all your help. It is really appreciated.

Alison

I appreciate the positive feedback and your reflections, Alison.

You've made a great start as team leader. Thanks for everything you are doing

I'll drop you a line later today and we can discuss these points and ideas on a one to one basis

Hi Alison,

I just "approved" the merger of two profiles for my maternal grandfather Arthur William FAULKNER. My mother was Norma Gwendoline FAULKNER (15 July 1925 - 20 November 2017) Her mother was Esther FAULKNER, Arthur's first wife. Please advise where you are on his tree. Cheers Naomi

Hi Naomi

Thank you for merging those profiles. I'm not connected to your family line, I work with the Gloucestershire team improving profiles (this often includes Somerset). I think I was searching Faulkners, perhaps to link a family into the main Wikitree and found the 2 profiles looking the same.

Kind regards

Sorry Alison! I wondered who would be the first person I would contact inappropriately! You were the (un)lucky winner! Cheers, Elizabeth :-)
Alison - please do a basic sanity check before making changes. Things like dates and locations. I have had to unwind some of your edits as they have no basis other than some common names, which may or may not relate to the actual individuals involved. Thanks.
posted by Roger Williams
Although I have replied privately as you've messaged on my profile I presume what you meant to say was 'Thank you Alison for adding sources to my unsourced profiles from 2015 but I'm not sure son Richard was baptised in Tetbury, even though the family have a strong links to the place which is 10 miles from where they lived and father Richard was born there. I do not know where or when he was baptised but I'm pretty sure there were different parents who had the same names in that location and so it could not be him'.

It's just less rude.

Alison - please (note, a request not rudeness as you are imputing) don't presume what I meant. To ascribe a baptism record simply because names match, but there is no evidence or record of the particular family having any connection with the baptism location, is problematic, As is assigning a baptism of someone several years after the indicated birth and to (unmarried) parents that do not match those already allocated. Doing so creates confusion and inaccuracy. Mistakes happen, but a little thought can avoid a lot of these.

We all want accuracy - it's part of the honor code. We try to be courteous - it's part of the honor code, and we are specifically reminded "When someone sounds rude, assume that they don't intend to be."

Well I’m sorry, it was rudeness to me too. I have always found Alison both accurate and courteous. If she has made a mistake there are better ways to point it out.

Hi Alison,

Thanks for editing the mess I made with Helen Rosa Ross Gough, John Edward Chappell, et al.! By the way, do we have any evidence for her Ross second name? I can't see it in the sources. Shall I delete it? Jonathan

posted by Jonathan Blagburn
Hi Jonathan

Thanks for your message.

I suspect the incorrect marriage was a suggestion based on the fact all 4 were on the same marriage index - so it's an easy mistake to make. I was just passing by the profile to fill in birth locations. I don't remember a middle name Ross but I wasn't on the lookout for it.

At least they're all married to the correct spouses now. :)

All the best

Alison

Hi Alison,

Back on 15th of March you added some information to the profile of Elizabeth (Balcomb) Mace (Balcomb-162) referring to a marriage certificate which gives her father as Richard Balcomb. Do you have the marriage certificate and if so could you please send me a copy? [email address removed] Regards Matthew

posted by Matthew Mace
Hi Matthew

I'm sorry if you receive this twice!

Here is the image link: [1] . I've also added it onto her profile.

I had another look for Elizabeth and father Richard but cannot find them. I searched Balcomb family in Gloucestershire and there is 1 family who moved to Cheltenham from Kent.

If you have a Geneologist subscription I noticed that both Elizabeth and Henry (Mace) gave their address as Park Street, Cheltenham. I would try and look that up in the 1861 census (It's not easy to do an address search on Ancestry). If Elizabeth had been living with her family they may still be there and horribly mistranscribed. Alternatively she may have gone into service (as many girls did) in Cheltenham. It's a bit of a long shot.

Looking again, I think the Croydon Elizabeth was a different person but that might be worth checking. I thought as her father was a journeyman brewer he may moved around a lot but peering closely at her marriage certificate he may have been a labourer.

I am just trying to find birth places and dates for people (so they can be found more easily and therefore connected and not duplicated), I don't have a family connection to Elizabeth.

Good luck though.

Alison

Hi Alison, you proposed a merge of 2 different people. 16:28: Alison (Winkler) Breton proposed a merge of Thomas Griffith (1737-1782) and Jonathan Griffiths (1773-1839). The dates are far apart and the names are different. Perhaps you meant to merge another Thomas Griffiths. Cheers Joan

Hi Alison,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

Hi Joan, thank you for your message. Apart from improving profiles on my tree I work in the Gloucestershire area, mainly sourcing Forest of Dean and tidying up gedcoms. It’s been a real sanity saver this year, especially during lockdown (I’ve had to close my business again this month for lockdown #2) . I tend not to go on the google group but Discord is very easy so I keep an eye on that. I absolutely love Wikitree and plan another productive year.

Hi Alison

Thank you for joining the Mighty Oaks for the Source-A-Thon (SAT). Congratulations on your work during the SAT. Its an amazing result for the Mighty Oaks, we sourced 8,887. Altogether the teams sourced a total of 57,577 profiles on wikitree. We hope you had fun while building the tree.

Hi Alison,

I'm glad you're working well in the Gloucestershire! I'm not part of the team myself, but I'm currently working on a Place Study for Lydney (in Forest of Dean, near the Welsh border) so I do a fair bit of work in the area. Let me know if there's anything I can do (as a Lydney researcher and as a Leader) to help you in the future :)

Hi Amy, I live in the Forest of Dean and Lydney is just down the road. I noticed it had a one place study. I'm not sure I know what a 'one place study' is but I do categorise relevant people I come across so I hope I'm doing the right thing. Lydney is not the prettiest of towns but it was quite important both as a route from Gloucester to Chepstow and the harbour - which has the second highest tidal flow in the world. The tidal flow creates a tidal wave going down the River Severn from Lydney that is big enough to surf on. It's called the Severn Bore, Anyway, you probably know that already. I'm hoping to stick with research in this area and tidy up as many of it's profiles as possible. I'm sourcing a large tree posted some time ago, and it's been very enjoyable. Thank you for your message and do let me know what a one place study is. If you've got a location and need a photo, drop me a line! All the best, Alison
